Inspirock Rating:
4.8/5 based on 750+ reviews on the web
At Altstadt von Graz, see how different cultures from the neighboring regions shaped its townscape. A World Heritage Site and living museum, the Old Town mixes many architectural styles, from gothic to contemporary. Walk the narrow alleyways alongside the Italian-style palaces, medieval facades, and modern buildings. Take a cable car to reach the Schlossberg, which is the site of the 11th-century fortress. Stop at the clock tower, the symbol of Graz. Other important sights are the town hall, the mausoleum of Emperor Ferdinand II, the Kunsthaus, and the Dom--a Gothic cathedral. Along the route, you'll find many street cafes with quasi-Mediterranean flair. • The Altstadt you visit very well, everything is within walking distance, nice shops, and excellent restaurants. Only caution; pay a bit of attention in the evening after dinner, especially in the area of the bridges that cross the Mur, in particular on ErzHerzog Brücke, watch your backpacks and bags. A little caution never hurts.
