Altstadt von Graz, Graz

(4.8/5 based on 850+ reviews on the web)
At Altstadt von Graz, see how different cultures from the neighboring regions shaped its townscape. A World Heritage Site and living museum, the Old Town mixes many architectural styles, from gothic to contemporary. Walk the narrow alleyways alongside the Italian-style palaces, medieval facades, and modern buildings. Take a cable car to reach the Schlossberg, which is the site of the 11th-century fortress. Stop at the clock tower, the symbol of Graz. Other important sights are the town hall, the mausoleum of Emperor Ferdinand II, the Kunsthaus, and the Dom--a Gothic cathedral. Along the route, you'll find many street cafes with quasi-Mediterranean flair. • Not only the many museums, such as the GrazMuseum or the armoury, the many churches and obvious features such as the Graz Castle, the Cathedral and the mausoleum make up the charm of the old town of Graz. There are especially the many small beauties such as magnificent facades and splendid Renaissance courtyards that make a walk through the streets and alleys to an entertaining pleasure. In between countless cafés and restaurants invite to relaxing and restorative breaks, providing sure the right thing for every taste!

  • A really nice city just too bad that there are more refugees than Austrians. Other than that I think it's pne of the most beautiful cities in the world
  • Graz is the most sympathetic city in Austria from my experience. Great old town, nice people, especially of the Kastner & Öhler, a large department store, as there is no other in Austria, which you must visit! Wonderful city walks, great attractions, and all totally relaxed. Absolutely worth a visit. Many of my friends used to love went to Udine for a quick weekend, now they love Graz. Better value for money, very helpful seller/saleswomen in shops, great gastronomy and sympathetic hotels. Much culture and southern Styria virtually on the doorstep.
