Altstadt von Graz, Graz

4.8
At Altstadt von Graz, see how different cultures from the neighboring regions shaped its townscape. A World Heritage Site and living museum, the Old Town mixes many architectural styles, from gothic to contemporary. Walk the narrow alleyways alongside the Italian-style palaces, medieval facades, and modern buildings. Take a cable car to reach the Schlossberg, which is the site of the 11th-century fortress. Stop at the clock tower, the symbol of Graz. Other important sights are the town hall, the mausoleum of Emperor Ferdinand II, the Kunsthaus, and the Dom--a Gothic cathedral. Along the route, you'll find many street cafes with quasi-Mediterranean flair. • Just around the time of Christmas (even though I hate it), the turn of the year, and so on, the old town of Graz is really a dream! It is beautifully lit and load once and just relax and take a walk. There are in every back alley to discover something ;) Just in the old town, there are plenty of cafés or shops and restaurants. On Sundays you can both walk and then stop in a café/restaurant, Saturday the woman alone can shop ;) For each, there is something in Graz!

  • Graz is always worth a visit. The Schloßberg, the old town, country house with the world's largest country stuff, the flair, the Mediterranean ambience, Schloss Eggenberg, the surrounding mountains with hiking trails... countless destinations, which you can see and experience. I would like to mention here also that Graz are interesting not only as bad weather programme with its museums (which here are called Joanneum).

  • The area is usually filled with tourists and a friendly local. Close to a lot of shops where you can find everything and even more. Impressive architecture and a magnificent landscape, because this place is the heart of Graz.

Where to stay in Graz

Austria’s second-largest city offers a large selection of accommodation options for every type of traveler. Outside of the city’s core in the Lend district are more affordable lodgings. Roughly a ten-minute walk to the Altstadt, this area provides an economical alternative while still keeping you close to the attractions. If you’re willing to compromise on privacy, the best prices are in private accommodations in local homes. Often this means sharing a bathroom with other guests and occasionally even the homeowners.
