The Pfänder is a mountain in western Austria close to Lake Constance (Bodensee). The town of Bregenz lies at the foot of the mountain on the shores of the lake. With its views over the lake and the surrounding mountain peaks, the Pfänder is one of the most famous lookout points of the region. With good visibility, the view from the summit reaches from the Allgäu and Lech valley Alps in the east, over to the Bregenz Forest, the steep mountain peaks of Arlberg region, Silvretta, and the Rätikon to the Swiss mountains and the foothills of the Black Forest in the west. Below is Lake Constance, surrounded by the Rhine valley and the Swabian hills. The mountain is a popular tourist destination, with hiking paths, an alpine park, a birds of prey show and a restaurant.TransportThe Pfänder Tunnel takes the A14 motorway underneath the Pfänder, bypassing Bregenz. This is a now a dual tunnel, having opened in July 2013The summit of the Pfänder can be reached by a cable car called the Pfänderbahn, with the base station in the town of Bregenz. The cable car covers a height difference of over 600m in around 6 minutes.

  • Who resides in the Lindau / Bregenz region and brings some time, which should necessarily take a trip on the pfänder mountain weather by car through countless switchbacks and at a slow pace, on foot or with the Pfänder railway. The latter is definitely my first choice. Two large cabin gondolas carrying visitors six minutes almost to the Summit and the optical pleasure of the short drive starts immediately after leaving the station. In the Valley is the famous Seebühne Bregenz first, left the Lech Valley, opens the Swiss Alps behind them and to the West of Lake Constance in its entire length. Only in real clear the eye ranges down to Konstanz. In the heat of the summer and slightly Misty weather, the panorama has, however, almost Mediterranean feel.

  • Went up cycling. Is a super prospect all the way. Also the hiking trails are great, just sturdy footwear is required. The Wildlife Park is also quite nice, if you're ever up.

  • Wonderful views of Lake Constance. The ascent is not suitable for everyone, because a safe kick is a prerequisite.
