Ngilgi Cave, Yallingup

4.6
At Ngilgi Cave, walk along the well-lit, steep and narrow boardwalks into the hot and humid chamber of this 500,000-year-old cave. The cave has a rich history related to the Aboriginal people who had lived there. As you descend 45 m (147 ft) below Earth's surface, be sure to stop and study the stalactites, stalagmites, and crystal formations on the way to the cave. Formations include Two Tonne Stalactite, the white Mother of Pearl Shawl, and the beautiful Arab's Tent Shawl. Observe the theater chamber with its superb acoustics: No wonder it has hosted numerous musical performances. More adventurous caving options and tours are available for cave aficionados. • Interesting walk through the cave. We had our toddler in a carrier and some parts were tricky, but the walkways and lighting throughout are easy to navigate. The 30 min staggering of tours was great because it wasn’t too crowded. Staff were friendly and informative. A word of warning to others- make sure you leave any loose items in the car! Ngilgi Cave will forever be the custodian of my sunglasses!
  • Excellent guide who made the talk interesting. Were able to explore at our own pace. Some steps a bit steep but railings all the way helped. Grandkids (5 and3) loved it.
  • Lovely natural cave with no coloured lights etc. A short talk at the start then you can look at your own pace. Does have a lot of stairs (about 350 in total which you have to climb back up but not all at once - there are many ups and downs and places to rest) but quite manageable if you take your time. WARNING - the lower oxygen level in the cave can cause breathlessness. Coupled with higher humidity this caused me to have a rare asthma attack. If you suffer from asthma it might pay to avoid this one or at least make sure you are prepared. I had to use an inhaler from the guide's first aid kit. They were great - very helpful.
  • An awesome limestone cave in Yallingup. It's quite a long adventure through the cave but my 4, 7 and 9 year olds loved it. There is even a tunnel built especially for the kids. Expect a lot of steps but you can wander the cave on your own within the confines of the walkways so no time limit.
  • I liked the fact that it's a semi guided tour. The tour guide will lead us to a starting point whereby we can continue exploring at our own pace before meeting up with the guide later. The cave has some benches which is good for my elderly parents to take a rest. The steps can be quite steep with bends but it's manageable. It's really a beautiful cave.
