  • The Wollongong Head Lighthouse, also known as Flagstaff Lighthouse or Flagstaff Point Light, is an active lighthouse located adjacent to the heritage-listed[1] Wollongong Harbour precinct in Wollongong, a coastal city south of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It overlooks the Tasman Sea from the top of Flagstaff Point, directly east of the city centre. Wollongong is the only place in the east of Australia to have two lighthouses located in close proximity of each other, the other being Wollongong Breakwater Lighthouse. Wollongong is the only place in the east of Australia to have two lighthouses located in close proximity of each other, the other being Wollongong Breakwater Lighthouse. Built by the Department of Shipping and Transport in 1936 to guide maritime traffic into Port Kembla Harbour located to the south. It was not only the first new lighthouse in New South Wales since 1903 but also the first to install fully automatic flashing lights.[2] The tower is constructed of reinforced concrete to withstand the strong winds and splashing waves where it stands on the eastern side of Flagstaff Point.
  • This place is an excellent vantage point at Wollongong. It has ample scenic beauty for me to keep going back. If you are the kind of person who likes sitting at a lighthouse and watching the ocean while reflecting on your life, time and space - this is your place. For the more extroverted people, you can have a lot of group activities and even organise a picnic on a wonderful sunny day. On one side you also have great food options and you can have your regular fish and chips as well! Been here twice and will be here again.
  • Such a great place to visit, and either have a picnic, or go for a walk. There’s a lot around this area, and the view from the lighthouse is amazing. And just a minute walk you can go down to the beach which is great. Very convenient with also a cafe nearby
  • There are the old and new lighthouses located close to each other. The head lighthouse, however, is still active. In front of it is the blue-wave Tasman Sea when the modern neighbourhoods of Wollongong is behind. To visit this place is recommended as it is in the central Wollongong city – just a little bit jealous of Wollongongians who can come here every day.
  • Nice place to chill and see the paradoxical skyline of Wollongong. The mix of the beach, rocks, city and smokestacks make for a great backdrop to a day trip picnic. It would be easy to spend a day up here on the hill. There is a place to grab fish and chips nearby and an easy slope down to the beach.
