Specialty Museum Museum
Step back in time at Timbertown Wauchope, a family-friendly attraction depicting the colonial era of a sawmiller’s village in northern New South Wales. Located on 39 hectares (87 acres) of coastal blackbutt (a species of eucalyptus) forests, this site is an interactive village-museum opened in 1976. The area’s key attraction is a working full-size narrow-gauge steam train, which rides on a short circuit track within and around the village. You can also choose to explore the area on horse and carriage rides. There are several businesses operating in the village, including a blacksmith, timber furniture maker, and a souvenir/confectionery shop. You can purchase local woodwork, artwork, and craft items from a number of skilled village artisans. • We arrived just before 1pm and were able to make the 1pm steam train ride - great fun. The park is good value for money but be warned - except for the gift shop and the blacksmith; the other shops close at 2.30pm (we weren't told that at reception or in the lolly shop when we said "we'll go for a walk and then be back on our way out"). Some signs with opening hours need to be clearly displayed on the shops. The gift shop was also a let-down. Timbertown has an amazing steam train but it's not on their kids t-shirts instead; they use photos of "Thomas the Tank-Engine" which I can buy cheaper elsewhere. The opening hours cannot be seen until you are at the front doors. Clear signs need to be displayed on the carpark entrance. We enjoyed our visit and will be back in the future but the above issues need to be fixed
  • Historical and really cool. It is very interesting to see how early settlers lived and has a lot of early engineering. Has a working bullock train which is probably one of the last in the world which was how they logged before bulldozers existed. Overall an extremely cool history lesson.
  • Absolutely loved this place. Made it feel like we were back in time
  • What a cool place to visit. Didn't expect that. The staff we met were authentic Aussie legends that know their trades (especially Craige the bullock specialist!). Shame we couldn't stay longer. Will definitely be back and have another ride with the steam train.
  • The staff here are very rude!!! The lady who works here is rude and not willing to help at all. I visited 3 times and not once did they allow us to enter the park telling us that the shows were over so we could not enter. My family and I arrived at 3:15 which is about an hour before closing time and they stated that all of the shows for the day were finished which we were fine with but they still wanted to charge us full price just to walk around the place which is not fair as people pay the same price for an all day pass including shows. We will never visit this place again thanks to the stupid lady who works there and the service. This is a real shame as wauchope is still a nice place to visit. Very dissapointed.
