Kata Tjuta / Mount Olga, Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park

Although Ayers Rock 25 km (16 mi) gets all of the fame, Kata Tjuta / Mount Olga is pretty spectacular in its own right. This group of 36 rocky domes also rises mysteriously out of the flat Outback, with the highest peaking 546 m (1,791 ft) above the plain. If you're keeping score, that's 198 m (650 ft) higher than Ayers Rock. If you've come all this way to see the more famous of the rock formations, don't miss this one. Put Kata Tjuta / Mount Olga at the forefront of your travel plans using our Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park vacation planner.

  • Very early morning start 6am to see the sunrise and then on to walk through Olgas or Kata Tjuta If I am honest you couldn't see that much change on our visit and would recommend the sunset trip if you...  more »
  • In comparison to the signs and explanations at Kings Canyon, the Olgas are definitely lacking. I have no clue how long the walks are, couldn't find the info so just did a couple of short walks which w...  more »
  • I will go back, but will do it differently next time. Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) and Uluru are in the same vicinity, (about 58km apart by road) but both are around 6 hours' drive from Alice Springs. That'...  more »

  • The place was fantastic. Did both views and the big walk back. Some difficult parts to climb up or down but definitely doable for even the unfit. Its a good long walk so take some water and find a day that's not too hot. Well worth doing whilst in the area. The views and the panoramic shots are amazing and the photos just don't do the place justice. An amazing experience.
  • Lovely place, scenic, awesome and majestic. Just remember out is also a holy place and sacred site to the Anangu
  • Really cool geology and an interesting hike. Takes 2-3 hours to do the full circuit but pretty rocky so wear sturdy shoes. Shady for a good bit of it but still gets quite hot. Better hike than Uluru and good views. Takes about an hour to get there from Yulara.
  • Great place for mid-level hiking to enjoy the surrounding scenery. It is good to enjoy both from afar and also when you are going close by or around the area.
  • Valley of the Winds. Great walk!
