Townsville Palmetum, Townsville

4.4
#6 of 16 in Parks in Townsville
One of three botanical gardens in the city, Townsville Palmetum features only one family of plants: the palm. The garden covers almost 17 hectares (42 acres) and includes a collection of all six palm subfamilies, with a total of over 300 species. See many rare and threatened palms, many of which can only be found in Australia, in their native habitat. The garden’s grassy areas, as well as its water features, attract a wide variety of birds, making this a favorite stop for birdwatchers from around the world. Stop by any time between sunrise and sunset for a walk on the garden’s long boardwalk, which runs through a wetland area and around a small inlet of the river Ross. Palmetum is an absolutely wonderful place to go for a walk to and luckily for me is located only minutes from my home 😊There are about 300 botanical species represented here 🌴🌺🌱🌾🌿 and you can hear and see many different birds, butterflies and occasionally even few kangaroos. Make sure to bring a mozzie repellent for an enjoyable walk, free of annoying bites and scratching πŸ˜‰ There is barely anyone around, so you usually get all the park to yourself 😊😊😊 And it provides a stunning backdrop for your impromptu photo session 😁😁😁

Absolutely stunning display of North Queensland flower and plant species. A must see if you are in Townsville and love the outdoors or gardening. Perfect backdrop for wedding or lifestyle photo shoots. Manicured, lush and plenty of walking paths, along with a small cafe at the entrance/exit.

Beautifully maintained gardens, Wallabies, Geese, birds, ducks, signage to explain monuments, fauna and wildlife. Tranquil surrounds, dog friendly (on leashes only) A nice oasis in the middle of Townsville city. Tumbetin Lodge (a restored school building) converted into a cafe and high tea style eating area is wrapped by a deck overlooking the gardens. Beautiful and peaceful place to be

This botanical garden is awesome. Spent 2 hrs walking around and a short walk along the Ross River which is running beside the gardens. The bird life was to die for and a photographers dream.
