Townsville Palmetum, Townsville
Categories: Gardens, Nature & Parks
One of three botanical gardens in the city, Townsville Palmetum features only one family of plants: the palm. The garden covers almost 17 hectares (42 acres) and includes a collection of all six palm subfamilies, with a total of over 300 species. See many rare and threatened palms, many of which can only be found in Australia, in their native habitat. The garden’s grassy areas, as well as its water features, attract a wide variety of birds, making this a favorite stop for birdwatchers from around the world. Stop by any time between sunrise and sunset for a walk on the garden’s long boardwalk, which runs through a wetland area and around a small inlet of the river Ross. A great place to wander about, family friendly. Arid gardens, rain forest, good pathways, seating around the gardens. Nice team rooms.
Never knew so many palms available in one place. With the tropical weather we have all year around this is the perfect place to visit . Come and have a loo folks.
