Townsville Palmetum, Townsville

#6 of 15 in Parks in Townsville
One of three botanical gardens in the city, Townsville Palmetum features only one family of plants: the palm. The garden covers almost 17 hectares (42 acres) and includes a collection of all six palm subfamilies, with a total of over 300 species. See many rare and threatened palms, many of which can only be found in Australia, in their native habitat. The garden’s grassy areas, as well as its water features, attract a wide variety of birds, making this a favorite stop for birdwatchers from around the world. Stop by any time between sunrise and sunset for a walk on the garden’s long boardwalk, which runs through a wetland area and around a small inlet of the river Ross. • Beautiful gardens with plenty of space and plants. It's a very picturesque green space located near the hospital, university and very close to the aged care homes. Also has tea rooms adjacent to the car park. There are shady areas, and open sunny areas. Many formal photos have been taken at the Palmetum. It's one of the three botanical gardens in Townsville. It's never usually crowded, and the only noise is from the traffic in the distance. Sun protection and mosquito repellent are recommended.
  • A beautiful Gardens experience, a large variety of plants and all very well Tagged, Nice how it's been broken up into designated area's, with a pleasant walking track and pathways linking each together. The creek running through is a bonus. Couldn't find a couple of palm plants, but it's not to say they don't have them, there is so many there, that I may just have missed them. If you like Palms or plants in general, this is a must see.
  • Great relaxing place for a walk, like to come here with my dad for lunch and sit by the river. Just look out for the spider webs 😁
  • Very beatiful. Plenty of seats near the walk ways. Signs up explaining what the trees or plants are. Massive big blue butterflies and best of all a lovely Cafe to sit inside or out to have from meals or just a coffee and to service was very good and there is wheel chair access and rest rooms.
  • Love this place - great setting and good service. Gluten free food available..
