Museum of Tropical Queensland, Townsville

4.1
#1 of 9 in Museums in Townsville
See one of the world’s most extensive and significant collections of coral at Museum of Tropical Queensland. This museum of natural history and archaeology also keeps artifacts recovered from the wreck of HMS Pandora, which sank off the coast of north Queensland in 1791 after capturing some of the participants in the infamous mutiny on the Bounty. Other notable exhibits include animatronic versions of the world's most famous dinosaurs, such as Tyrannosaurus rex and Queensland’s own Muttaburrasaurus, as well as a typical north Queensland rain forest environment. Bring the whole family to the interactive exhibition of a Great Barrier Reef shipwreck, which is custom-built for families with small children. Make Museum of Tropical Queensland a centerpiece of your Townsville vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Townsville itinerary planner.

The Pandora exhibit was being dismantled, but still plenty to see and experience. Rainforest exhibit was great, would be very engaging for kids. "Underwater" travel was another interesting exhibit.  more »

Fairly small museum. $15 per adult and then I found out it used to be only $8. The Pandora exhibit is nice, pretty detailed. Decent amount of space allocated towards the sea, rainforest and insects, bugs, spiders but a very small area for dinosaurs (which I was most excited about). Spent about an hour here. Wouldn't be missing much if you passed this place.

When the dinosaur exhibit was in town it was great! Now it has gone there is not much there...and half of what is on display is broken as my son and I discovered AFTER paying entry:/

Very family oriented. The Pandora exhibit was great, and the old diving helmets were fantastic but scary
