Pick up a memento of your time in Australia at Sydney's Paddy's Market, selling a huge range of souvenirs at much better prices than regular gift shops. Choose from quintessential Aussie gifts, such as stuffed koalas and kangaroos, or replicas of indigenous arts and crafts, such as traditional paintings and hand-made didgeridoos. The market also sells products as varied as fruit, vegetables, fresh fish, clothing, flowers, and jewelry. Located in Haymarket near Chinatown, Sydney's Paddy's Market is one of the area's major tourist attractions. There is also a market in Flemington. • Walking around the market is like groundhog day. You pass the same sorts of stall merchandise row after row after row. Very disappointing.  more »

  • Fresh veggies and fruits at reasonable price... our favourite place for fresh produce shopping. New multi-level parking is also very good. Lift is a big plus! Recommended to go there a bit early. Produce may be a bit costly compared to what you get after 12, but still its worth. Clean toilets and plenty of security staff, generally clean place... may get crowded after 12 but still its fine.
  • A wonderful market with a massive range of products on sale. They have everything a consumer could want at fairly decent prices and you can even get a massage while you are there from a qualified Chinese medicinal masseuse. They also have a large fresh produce section and fresh fish market. Something for all the family here. 3 stars.
  • Great place for souvenirs, clothes, hats, sunglasses, etc. Some of the most reasonably priced souvenirs in the city. Also a decent produce market in the back with a wide variety of produce for affordable prices. Some of the store clerks are extremely friendly and will strike up a pleasant conversation, but some are a bit sullen and act suspicious. There's probably no real need for them to act this way considering there are plenty of security guards throughout the market. Still a nice place to visit
  • It can be reached by light rail, and it is not far from China Town. Most of the stalls sell Chinese and other Asian imported souvenirs and clothing. Do not expect anything upmarket here. I won't call these craps, because it is matter of horses for courses. There are several fresh fruit and vegetable stalls. Prices are generally cheaper than those at the supermarket. There were a few stalls selling fresh meat and poultry. At the rear end of the market, you need to go up a few steps to the the fresh fish "supermarket".
  • My sister and mum went there on our holiday to Sydney. Great place to get souvenirs and many items. My sister got some really nice souvenirs to bring back home and two bath bombs -- which were absolutely lovely, the colours were nice and it worked well. Overall a really nice place.

Where to stay in Sydney

Sydney offers visitors hundreds of lodging options in its central area, with choices suitable for most budgets. As expected in a major tourist destination, harbor views play a major role in determining room prices. Expect to pay more for ocean-view suites, especially if you visit at the peak of the tourist season or around big city events. If you don't need to stay in the center of Sydney, consider budget-friendly hotels near the airport, or look for smaller roadside motels in the city's South West neighborhood.
