Queen Victoria Building, Sydney

4.5
Queen Victoria Building offers an architectural delight: an extravagantly detailed shopping center from Australia's late colonial period amidst the gleaming modernity of downtown Sydney's skyscrapers. From the outside, admire the Romanesque Revival facade that American architect Henry Hobson Richardson employed throughout the city in the last decade of the 19th century. Observe the large copper-sheathed central dome, cupolas on the corners of the roof, and columns all along the exterior walls. Inside, see stained-glass windows, arched skylights by the central dome, colonnades, and balustrades. And the shopping isn't half-bad in here either. • You have to visit this place! It is absolutely gorgeous. The heritage this building has to offer is stunning. Heaps of high end shops upstairs and good (more useful) shops at the bottom floor. A variety of cafes on the floors too.
  • Picturesque and spectacular. Beautiful building, old fashioned but amazing shops. The designs on walls and the building architecture is notable. I visited the place during Christmas and there were families with kids celebrating. Cheerful environment.
  • A unique experience. Victorian architecture. Nice cafes but generally expensive shops. Worth a visit for sake of uniqueness
  • The Queen Victoria building is an amazing place to visit in Sydney if you are visiting the city or coming from overseas. There are amazing shops to see a lot of nice cafes and restaurants to eat at with different variety’s to choose from. Even at Christmas time the place is buzzing and the service is always very good even though there is a lot of people. For sure a place I would recommend to anyone come to Sydney.
  • Cafes. High teas, bags, watches, designers clothes and rare pink argyle diamonds. Plenty of antiques and gifts ideas. Bathrooms at each ends of the building, as well as lifts. So many cafes to choose each offering food and drinks. Perfect for meeting place, resting or sit around chatting with friends. The middle section has huge piano that anyone can play and the sounds echoes beautifully. During festive seasons huge display in the middle empty ground to roof, like Christmas tree or floral display.
