Queen Victoria Building, Sydney

(3,800+ reviews on the web)
Landmark Tourist Spot
Queen Victoria Building offers an architectural delight: an extravagantly detailed shopping center from Australia's late colonial period amidst the gleaming modernity of downtown Sydney's skyscrapers. From the outside, admire the Romanesque Revival facade that American architect Henry Hobson Richardson employed throughout the city in the last decade of the 19th century. Observe the large copper-sheathed central dome, cupolas on the corners of the roof, and columns all along the exterior walls. Inside, see stained-glass windows, arched skylights by the central dome, colonnades, and balustrades. And the shopping isn't half-bad in here either. Use our Sydney tourist route planner to add Queen Victoria Building and other attractions to your Sydney vacation plans.

  • Beautiful old building. appreciate the way they have elaborate clocks and a perfect blend of modern & ancient shopping malls experience. Well worth the visit. But beware its expensive place
  • Beautiful old building. Loved the stained glass windows, the elaborate clocks and all the curved stairways. For anyone with mobility issues there are lifts and for everyone else there is a choice of stairs, escalators and lifts. Well worth the visit.
  • Its a different experience in a way. On top of the Train Station is located the Queen Victoria Building. It has great shops like Coffee, Eateries, Shoes and Apparel, Jewelry, Mobile Shop, ATMs, Top Brands. So a nice place to stop by while getting on or off the train. Just that at times while drinking coffee or eating it can get quite noisy because of the public crossing due to the train station, which is quite disturbing, otherwise its a sophisticated place. Overall Good.
  • The Best looking building in Australia. Stained windows very impressive and the Monarchy clock that is very interesting and fun to watch. The lift is probably the best lift around. Love the spiral staircase that leads to the roof. Very expensive stores inside.
  • It is amazing that this iconic Sydney landmark retains its historic architectural charm while serving so many functions and having so many visitors. It contains many shops and cafes; and there are often art displays and public performances. Older style amenities are available and kept in working order. Many openings and connections underground make it a hub for foot traffic. It is conveniently located with many transport options. Many other attractions are nearby.
