Manly Beach, Sydney

4.6
#1 of 615 in Beaches in Australia
Beach · Nature / Park
Manly Beach stands as one of the best places to experience Australian beach culture. Captain Arthur Phillip gave the sandy area its name based on his perception of the masculine behavior of the indigenous people he met when he arrived in 1788. Now the long sandy beaches also are home to trendy shops and nightclubs. If you want activity, try surfing, windsurfing, parasailing, snorkeling, or scuba diving. If you prefer leisure, enjoy a picnic on the sheltered beach of Manly Cove. Only 11 km (7 mi) from downtown Sydney, the beach is easily accessible from Circular Quay via regular ferry or fast catamaran. • Nice big clean beach but the sea looks dirty and it smells funky
  • Windy. Good but not exceptional
  • The dream town for surfers and holidays vibes
  • It’s so crowded with so many people coming here and I’m guessing it’s hard to swim. I suppose there are more secluded beaches nearby if you want a dip. Lots of food and restaurants around though and it’s accessible by public transport.
  • Pretty special place! Especially the walk around to Shelly Beach.
