Manly Beach, Sydney

4.4
#1 of 479 in Beaches in Australia
Manly Beach stands as one of the best places to experience Australian beach culture. Captain Arthur Phillip gave the sandy area its name based on his perception of the masculine behavior of the indigenous people he met when he arrived in 1788. Now the long sandy beaches also are home to trendy shops and nightclubs. If you want activity, try surfing, windsurfing, parasailing, snorkeling, or scuba diving. If you prefer leisure, enjoy a picnic on the sheltered beach of Manly Cove. Only 11 km (7 mi) from downtown Sydney, the beach is easily accessible from Circular Quay via regular ferry or fast catamaran. • One of the best beaches in Sydney! Great to Walk from Queenscliff round to Shelley. Watch out for Bluebottles if the wind blows them in - can give you a nasty sting!
  • Such a Wonderfull place. I have been the first time with the rain but it was gorgeous, so i decided to come back in a sunny day. Great decision, it was really nice!
  • I went there expecting to increase my manliness, but while there I had no outward signs of greater buffness or cooler facial hair. Other than the false advertising, it was a very beautiful beach.
  • Even in the winter, the rich golden sand and temperate waters are inviting - some local teens at least weren't put off! Nicely kept beach frontage, vast expanse of sand and some decent [not overpriced] places to eat and shop in Manly close by
  • Gr9 Beach, but false advertisement, not nearly manly enough, I saw leik 30000 grillz there. Would give 0 starz if I could

Where to stay in Sydney

Sydney offers visitors hundreds of lodging options in its central area, with choices suitable for most budgets. As expected in a major tourist destination, harbor views play a major role in determining room prices. Expect to pay more for ocean-view suites, especially if you visit at the peak of the tourist season or around big city events. If you don't need to stay in the center of Sydney, consider budget-friendly hotels near the airport, or look for smaller roadside motels in the city's South West neighborhood.
