kikki.K Queen Victoria Building (QVB) offers an architectural delight: an extravagantly detailed shopping center from Australia's late colonial period amidst the gleaming modernity of downtown Sydney's skyscrapers. From the outside, admire the Romanesque Revival facade that American architect Henry Hobson Richardson employed throughout the city in the last decade of the 19th century. Observe the large copper-sheathed central dome, cupolas on the corners of the roof, and columns all along the exterior walls. Inside, see stained-glass windows, arched skylights by the central dome, colonnades, and balustrades. And the shopping isn't half-bad in here either.
