Clovelly, Sydney

#4 of 23 in Beaches in Sydney
Head to the beach at Clovelly to avoid the crowds on other stretches of sand around Sydney. Locals adore this beach, which sits on the point of a concrete-surrounded inlet, for its calm, clear water full of comfortable and lack of other visitors. Bring your snorkel to check out the underwater action and lay out in the clean sand or along the smooth concrete if you prefer sand-free lounging. You'll encounter the beach along the coastal cliff walk between Bondi Beach and Bronte. You cannot scuba dive here during the day between October and April. • My daughter and I got stranded here when I lost the car key, and the people at the cafe and nearby hotel (bar) were fantastic. They made sure we were warm and dry and well fed despite having no money or ID. The generosity and compassion was unparalleled. I've found my new second home.
  • Nice big beach to swim across in the shallows. Doesn't get much to surf. Lots of cafes , bars near by. Right next to bus stops. Gets super busy on the grass in Summer. No alcohol zone, patrolled alot in Summer.
  • I like swimming in the ocean, but I don't like being encrusted in sand. If you feel the same way, Clovelly is the beach for you.
  • Small, sheltered bay with tidal pool. Picnic areas perfect for family outings.
  • The beach itself is perfect for kids because it's a little bay with no waves. Although, not much space. If you walk a little more to the Sharks Point, it offers some great photographic opportunities.

Where to stay in Sydney

Sydney offers visitors hundreds of lodging options in its central area, with choices suitable for most budgets. As expected in a major tourist destination, harbor views play a major role in determining room prices. Expect to pay more for ocean-view suites, especially if you visit at the peak of the tourist season or around big city events. If you don't need to stay in the center of Sydney, consider budget-friendly hotels near the airport, or look for smaller roadside motels in the city's South West neighborhood.
