Clovelly, Sydney

#5 of 24 in Beaches in Sydney
Head to the beach at Clovelly to avoid the crowds on other stretches of sand around Sydney. Locals adore this beach, which sits on the point of a concrete-surrounded inlet, for its calm, clear water full of comfortable and lack of other visitors. Bring your snorkel to check out the underwater action and lay out in the clean sand or along the smooth concrete if you prefer sand-free lounging. You'll encounter the beach along the coastal cliff walk between Bondi Beach and Bronte. You cannot scuba dive here during the day between October and April. • It's a great place to swim in the sea without the discomfort of getting sandy and avoiding the waves of the beach.  more »
  • Lots of concrete which makes this natural setting look ugly, very narrow beach and parklands but still popular - Cafe and lifesavers.  more »
  • Terrific beach to go for a regular swim as it has a concrete boardwalk effect on both sides to dive in off. Quite a lot of fun when tide is high or seas are slightly rough. The sandy beach is well pat...  more »

  • Decent 25m free sea lap pool (seems to have lights but maybe in the evening at certain times of the year). If you're on the east it's not as nice or busy as other beaches but still great and I always get a free parking spot in the morning or evening on weekends. Beach itself is great for families and and picnics. Short walk to beautiful Gordon's Bay and Coogee further down.
  • Great beach has everything like outdoor swimming pool, snorkeling, paddling inflatable. Sun bath on the Sandy beach or concrete. Outdoor shower for before and after beach (what makes it challenging its only shower. Would be helpful if they have at least 2 or 3 the family had to wait quite a while for our turn to wash the sand off as the queue was long). Life guards are on site. Parking is very challenging on a nice day.
  • Great spot for families with a long, beautiful beach & human-made concrete sides with ladders (like a pool). Still has small waves & does get deep, but stays shallow for a good distance & is often home to many fish (which also attracts many people). Seems to get quite dirty in the shallows of the shore with dirt, bark & ash (in summer if there's been a fire) collecting & staying in the shallow water (unlike most other beaches). Very clean out deeper though where the fish live.
  • What a fantastic place. It has a sea water pool, a proper beach with surf quality waves and a protected beach for family and kids. And then there is a cafe, toilets and showers and to top it off, Surf Life Guards patrol the area. My son loved to play on the ramp that goes into the water and is in the shade. The beach can get busy from local and Australian and overseas tourists so please get there before 9am. Free parking is also available on the venue but is extremely busy as well.
  • Family friendly beach. Beach is sheltered so great swimming conditions all year round. Man made channel means that you can do some nice snorkeling and swimming while staying sand free. Plenty of parking and amenities. Avoid 8.30-10.30 Sundays during summer due to local Nippers club
