Pioneer Settlement, Swan Hill

4.2
#1 of 9 in Things to do in Swan Hill
Learn how the early settlers lived at Pioneer Settlement, a replica of a riverside town. Step aboard the restored paddle steamer Gem and watch shows at Kaiser Stereoscopic Panorama Theatre, one of only three anywhere in the world. Hop on a horse-drawn coach to explore the village made up of 50 cottages and heritage buildings. Steel wheel tractors are the only examples still existing anywhere in the world. The youngest visitors will be delighted at the opportunity to dress up in old-time clothes and taste treats at the candy shop. During the day, relax on the Mighty Murray River with a cruise aboard the PS Pyar. In the evening, a modern sound-and-light show will ensure your journey back in time is a memorable experience. • This was our families first visit, but will not be the last. What a fantastic step back in time, with so many things to look at and experience. From old printing machines, blacksmith and wood turning displays, butter churning, rope making, a ride on a paddle steamer and old machinery as far as the eye can see, this is a must do when in town. The staff and especially the Volunteers are so accommodating, friendly and knowledgeable and were happy to answer any questions we had. The Heartbeat of the Murray sound and light show is a must do, It was out of this world. To everyone at the park, thankyou for making our visit so special it was a real highlight. We will be back.
  • A spectacular display of an early history of the Murray river region. So many buildings and shops well preserved and full of artifacts. Really feels like walking the streets of an older town. I was especially impressed with a display at the chemist. A boat ride on an old steamer is also highly recommended.
  • The heart beat of the Murray is a must! Amazing. Love the settlement, many things to see and do. Would 110% recommend this place and would go back.
  • Was there in 1975. ..so glad it is still open. I remember vintage Harley Davidson motorcycles on display and a very large resident kangaroo. We camped nearby with our motorcycle, had a nice lobster dinner in town and walked from the campground to some car races. Great memories.
  • A must visit when you're in Swan Hill. We had a wonderful experience, walking around the well kept settlement, run majority by volunteers. We even dressed up and took some memorable pictures, all for only an additional $5. The laser show at night is simple amazing. Such creativity with lights and the Murray River water. Would recommend this place to people of all ages.
