Luna Park Melbourne, St Kilda

2.8
Built in 1912, Luna Park Melbourne is Melbourne's historic amusement park located on the foreshore of Port Phillip Bay. This vintage park was the first of its kind built in Australia and has been operating almost continuously since opening a century ago. The site's main features include the iconic "Mr. Moon" face entry and flanking towers, and the Scenic Railway, which is the oldest continuously operating roller coaster in the world. You can also drop by the park's more modern attractions, such as the Crazy Coaster roller coaster, the Spider, Ferris wheel, and several other thrill rides popular with kids. Unfortunately the roller coaster is currently closed for renovations and that is the one ride I was most wanting to go on. It wasn't too busy which was nice, and everyone looked to be having a good ti...  more »

I find the Luna Park small and not worth a trip unless there is really really nothing to do or unless you have small kids with you.  more »

A recent visit to St Kilda didn’t seem complete without visiting Luna Park. What a gem of a landmark that doesn’t pretend to compete with the Dreamworlds and so on! One would visit to appreciate the h...  more »

Wen there for a day out with the kids overall the price was $150 for the family and they had a good day out. Wasn't crowded and found parking nearby for the day at $12.60 ticketed. About 5 rides that the kids found challenging pirate ship, power surge and scissors was their favourite. Scenic Railway was under repair but the park provided passes to use at a later date so well looked after. Overall a good day out with a reasonable price on coffee etc. Only go there on sunny days as there is no real shelters to hide from the wind and rain.

I wouldn't recommend travelling very far to get here. We live a 5 minute walk away and it took us around a month after moving in to even bother having a look as it always looked a bit drab. We popped in and found that it's free to actually walk around which is brilliant, you just have to pay for the rides which was an extortionate $50 (if you round it up) which we paid around the same if not a bit less to get into the big theme parks on the Gold Coast. The big main ride is out of action at the moment which no prior warning signs, one of the smaller rides is out of action and the big carousel ride in the middle is out of action. There isn't many options for rides that suit adults and it's very kid based. Doesn't have many extra bits to keep kids entertained. The pay as you play fair style games are an absolute rip off. I played hook a duck and only pulled out 2 number 1 ducks which got me a very small, cheap stuffed toy. Which cost me $5 to play. After watching several people before and after me play my partner got suspicious and picked up a load of the ducks, all of which were number 1's so there's basically no way to win a bigger price unless you pay to continuously play. Overall it's NOT somewhere I would actually recommend and it certainly doesn't deserve all the hype it gets.

Luna Park is one of the best and most unique venues we’re had the pleasure of working with in Central Melbourne for Weddings, Corporate Events & Celebrations. Each time we’ve performed at Luna Park, you can see the care and attention to detail focused onto the client and their guests. The venue is amazing, the staff are so professional and friendly, and the food is to die for! When we have a gig booked at Luna Park our entertainment team know that it’s going to be a 10/10! Special mention must be made to Penny in events for being particularly lovely & accommodating every time we visit. Thanks so much for having us guys, we can't wait to be back!

I've been here more than 20 times - since I was a young - and it's a fantastic place for kids to spend the day. The lines are usually really long and you end up waiting quite a long time, but if you're a kid, it's worth it - not so much for the adults. The single tickets are quite expensive when you add it all up, so the daily pass is the best option.

What a joke second time I've been here second time the scenic railway isn't working. Been here nearly all day and only been on 6 rides because the queues are so slow. I've never seen staff dawdle so much. Currently waiting for the ghost train. 3/4 an hour already and still only half way there even though the queue isn't that long. Weak staff letting people double up and cut the line.
