Mad Max Museum, Silverton

4.1
#3 of 10 in Things to do in Silverton
The first and only museum of its kind in Australia, Mad Max Museum is the product of one man’s passion and obsession with an iconic 1980s film character. The museum is owned and operated by Adrian Bennett, an Englishman who moved to Australia in 2006 in order to fulfill his dream of building a place entirely dedicated to Mad Max. Bennett built a huge compendium of original Mad Max items by scouring several film locations, and by connecting to other fans generous enough to donate numerous objects from their own personal collections. Drop by to see lots of Mad Max photos, costumes, original vehicles used in the movie, and replicas built by Bennett himself. • Our patience paid off! After buzzing the door and waiting a good 10-15 minutes the museum was opened for us to have a look inside. Costing $30.00 per family we were able to explore the inner room which contained a lot of paraphernalia from the Mad Max Museums and the outdoor awning out the back which features a number of vehicles that have been recovered from the desert, donated or purchased. The adults in the group found it fascinating. The team were helpful and welcoming. I don't think you can visit Silverton without a visit. I think it's the only Mad Max Museum in the world?
  • My husband had been wanting to visit the Mad Max 2 museum for 10 yrs. We drove 12 hrs to see it and it was well worth the trip. I was just going for the quality time with hubby but It turned out, I enjoyed looking at all of the memorabilia just as much as he did. Chatting with the owners was a highlight, great people. A trip we made weeks ago and are still showing photos and talking about. We also love wearing our matching souvenir T's. Thanks Adrian and Linda. See you again! Mark & Kerrie
  • IT WAS A WASTE OF MY TIME & MONEY. WOULDN'T RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE. THE PEOPLE ARE THE RUDEST I'VE EVER MEET IN MY LIFE. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE AN OPINION
  • The stuff that one pom can gather from the desert and catalogue about an almost forty year old movie is astounding. Congratulations on resurrecting this amazing museum of Aussie pop culture and placing it in exactly the place where it belongs. If you're in Broken Hill, go there and take your time to take it all in.
  • It's just Mad Max 2 gear but the folks have gone to great detail to show as much as possible. I found it very impressive as it brought back memories from my youth when it was released 👍
