Mad Max Museum, Silverton

4.2
#3 of 10 in Things to do in Silverton
The first and only museum of its kind in Australia, Mad Max Museum is the product of one man’s passion and obsession with an iconic 1980s film character. The museum is owned and operated by Adrian Bennett, an Englishman who moved to Australia in 2006 in order to fulfill his dream of building a place entirely dedicated to Mad Max. Bennett built a huge compendium of original Mad Max items by scouring several film locations, and by connecting to other fans generous enough to donate numerous objects from their own personal collections. Drop by to see lots of Mad Max photos, costumes, original vehicles used in the movie, and replicas built by Bennett himself. • What a great little museum, really close to the location of the actual filming. We popped in on our way home from working in South Australia. As we were arriving quite late, Adrian kept it open till w...  more »

  • I had 3 spare hours whilst working in Broken Hill so I drove to Silverton just for the museum and glad I did! The photos, props and replicas of the vehicles were all great. Plenty to take in. I could ...  more »

  • Well worth the trip. I loved this place and the owners are very welcoming and knowledgeable. If there are any people on here who didn't like it, say it's too small, I reckon they are clowns. Great museum and has made Silverton a destination, I drove nearly 8 hours in a day to go there.
  • Wonderful collection of memorbillia about the movie. They are extending the exhibition. No thanks to Western Lands Dept. The owners came from England and set the museum up. Job well done.
  • Wonderful little museum full of memorabilia, props and replicas, very well curated with such interesting pieces as dailies, scripts and even the original gyro! Absolutely worth a visit if you are a fan! Admission is very cheap especially for what you get to see. Recommended
  • Great place to visit even if you’re not into Mad Max. The owners are fantastic people who welcome every visitor. I’ve got to say, I was laughing my head off reading the review, below, by Barney Joseph. How can you come to a museum like this and give a 2-star review because you were unhappy about the positioning of a bloody car?! Bet you’re a right laugh, Barney. It’s a small museum filled with a tonne of memorabilia and really captures the iconic ‘feel’ of Mad Max 2.
  • Well worth the visit. To see stuff from the movie that had been dug up after being dumped all those years ago was pretty cool. The owners took the time to have a chat about the displays and photos. Will visit again.
