Day Dream Mine, Silverton

#2 of 10 in Things to do in Silverton
Located in a town of only 50 permanent residents, historic Day Dream Mine was founded in 1881. Join one of two daily tours offered here to learn about the important role the mining industry had in the development of this region. The mine can be reached by a 40 minute drive from Broken Hill, through some of the Australian outbackā€™s most iconic scenery. You can choose to tour the surface or the underground of the old silver mine to see how it once operated, manned by young miners (some no more than eight years old) who worked and lived in extremely harsh conditions. Cold drinks, hot tea, and souvenirs are available to interested tour participants. Wow, this is an amazing experience. Probably not for everyone with the low ceilings in spots but certainly a great way to get a historical perspective on Mining in the area.  more »
