  • This is a great facility set up to assist sick or injured koalas. Not large but a real asset to the community. You can make a donation which is used to further assist the treatment of ill Koalas  more »
  • We popped into the koala hospital during our stay in Port Macquarie. I wasn’t sure what to expect but the hospital was incredibly educational and eye opening. You walk around enclosures with the perma...  more »
  • Abolut worth a visit! Those who had the "guided tour" at 3 pm was great! It costs nothing but in the end, you can donate if the can can/want.

  • Very unique experience! The hospital does such great work in helping vulnerable koalas; was so great to see first-hand the impact they are having. Be sure to go during the tour (every day at 3:00 p.m.), as you’ll learn a lot more than meets the eye. Also, consider donating what you can (we “adopted” a koala, but any donation is greatly appreciated and goes a long way). Would recommend to anyone!
  • The koala hospital is a good little facility helping koalas with injuries and disabilities. It is nice that they allow you to view their temporary and permanent residents free of charge. They gladly accept donations though. The examination room with viewing window enables you to see the medical work they do on the koalas. A great place doing great work looking after Australia's treasured animal. Definitely worth visiting if passing or close by.
  • This special place is definitely worth a visit. The Koala Hospital specialises in helping injured and disabled koalas. You can meet the resident koalas, read their stories, and you can donate to help them by leaving money in the charity boxes or by getting something from the gift shop. This is a really cool place.
  • We didn't know about this place and it was a really beautiful experience. You can see a lot of koala for free and all the koala that you can see they were saved by the hospital and for serious damages they cannot return to the wild life. The place is totally for free and I think they made also a tour of the hospital. Some of the people are just volunteer. Go there and no zoo
  • Free, interesting. Tour is great but does not suit small children. Tour is really for adults only as the information they give is really over the heads of small children. The Koala-seum is great, very interactive. Best to take children any time except to the tour at 3pm as a lot of the kids that were there got very bored, there is a lot of standing around learning about koalas and only a few koalas visible which we saw for a couple of short periods during the overall tour. Kids would find it much more enjoyable to view in their own time :)

Where to stay in Port Macquarie

As a well-established holiday destination, Port Macquarie offers a good number of places to stay. Most accommodations cluster in the town's scenic areas--at the mouth of the Hastings River and along the coast, as well as close to the beaches. While the town does feature several larger hotels, rental apartments and guesthouses outnumber them by far. If you're looking to stay outside town and closer to the lush surrounding countryside, you can choose anything from luxurious cabins to campgrounds.
