  • The initiative is just great.koalas do get hurt and sick, so they do need to be taken care of. Koala hospital cures the injured animals and sets them free again ( if that allows their medical condition). We loved to see those beautiful creatures recovering from a very close distance. Support koala hospital with a donation!
  • Very interestin place to visit. You can see the structure where they check injured koalas and the permanet koala residents that cannot go back to the wild. They also have a big areas of koalas you cannot see cause they are in rehabilitation. At 3pm they offer a free tour and give you info about koala and how they take care about koalas. Very interesting. You can also adopt a koala which i think is very helpful for these passionate people that help koalas for free
  • So very worth a visit and please please Donate to help these saints of volunteers who care for these iconic creatures. 3pm has a most informative talk and tour and feed the Koalas. The gift shop was very worth the visit. Walked away with several great T Shirts This Hospital is a must on visitors itinerary.
  • This place receives NO government funds. Kind and genuinely caring staff and volunteers. The animals are in real need of medical care and a couple of them are no longer capable of returning to the wild. If not for this facility, they wouldn't survive.
  • A special experience you won't get at the zoo! (see below for TIPS) Unlike the koala encounters at the zoo, here you can meet them personally, come as close as a meter, without the crowds, and hear the story of each koala. The staff smilingly answers questions while feeding and nursing the koalas. After recovering, most koalas are going through adaptation before being returned to nature, therefore some won't be displayed and the number you can meet changes periodically. TIPS: Open for visitors daily 8am-4pm, you can call to make sure before arrival. When visiting, don't forget to write your names in the visitor book, as the place is funded according to number of visitors. It is also possible (though not necessary) to give small or big donations, and even adopt a koala (you will help fund the treatment for it and will receive stories and updates of your koala).

Where to stay in Port Macquarie

As a well-established holiday destination, Port Macquarie offers a good number of places to stay. Most accommodations cluster in the town's scenic areas--at the mouth of the Hastings River and along the coast, as well as close to the beaches. While the town does feature several larger hotels, rental apartments and guesthouses outnumber them by far. If you're looking to stay outside town and closer to the lush surrounding countryside, you can choose anything from luxurious cabins to campgrounds.
