Hyde Park Perth, Perth

4.5
#3 of 18 in Parks in Perth
Enjoy the shaded pathways of Hyde Park Perth, where you can jog, rollerblade, bike, picnic, or simply enjoy a few quiet moments with a good book and a cup of coffee. European settlers turned this swampy zone into a public park in 1897, creating an urban green space that still plays an important social and ecological role. The park hosts frequent music festivals and live performances, and is a popular venue for weddings and family photographs. Also notable for its mature trees, the area is lined with figs, pines, jacarandas, cedars, and several indigenous eucalyptuses, some of which are over a century old. Two lakes located within the park attract a wide variety of birdlife, which includes ducks, coots, pelicans, and swans. To visit Hyde Park Perth on your trip to Perth, use our Perth trip planner.

  • Good place to hang out or go for a picnic. Only complaint is it's very busy during peak periods and weekends. There's lots of people around and the walk ways are full. You have to dodge and walk around people to get from one area to the next. However it's a well maintained park and lovely to visit.
  • Beautiful park. Great playground and water play area for kids. Also lots of pathways around and through it if you just want a walk through a picturesque park with established trees. Coffee van on weekends too!
  • Beautiful place, ideally located close to the city of Perth surrounded by big trees that provide ample shade on a hot day. An icecream van and coffee vendor was located in the park for the enjoyment of children and parents on the hot day when we visited. A water playground was working for the enjoyment of the hundreds of kids and some parents who used it to cool down on this hot 36 degree day. Well worth the visit in any weather conditions and it's free.... Not the coffee and icecream. Stretch your legs around this beautiful park, enjoy nature at its best...you will not regret the visit.
  • Stunning views, with space for everyone, from the mothers with children, to who is just having a coffee and relaxing, or who is exercising. Hyde park is a lovely, tranquil and easily accessible green spot in city center. Free parking and cafes nearby.
  • Lovely park with plenty of shade and gorgeous jacarandas in springtime. Highly recommend popping across to Chu Bakery for some goodness and enjoying it in this park. Also great for adorable dog spotting on a Sunday morning.

Where to stay in Perth

When you choose your Perth accommodations, remember that this city stretches over a wide area, which can cause issues for visitors with limited time to sightsee. The best way to remain close to urban transportation is to stay in the central business district or neighboring Northbridge, where you'll also find the greatest selection of hotels. To avoid the center's big crowds and steep hotel prices, consider booking a room in the coastal town of Mandurah, easily accessible by Perth's reliable suburban railway system.
