Discover Government House, a true Canadian treasure! Built in 1891, this grand building first served as the official residence of the Lieutentant Governor of the North-West Territories. Restored to the period of Lieutenant Governor Amedee Forget, who was in office from 1898-1910, the museum gives you a glimpse of life at Government House at the turn of the 20th century.

  • Government house has an interesting history and it's best left to be told by one of the local City of Perth tour guides. You can't actually access the inside of Government House (unless you're invited...  more »
  • Worth it if you're passing taking a picture of the residence of the Governor of Western Australia. It was built between 1859 and 1864 and its gardens are very well maintained. If you are in Perth, some events are held in the gardens.

  • Best to visit on an opening day. Very impress.
  • Beautiful lawns. Not always open to the public. No people anywhere. Could have an undisturbed picnic lunch here, kids would love the lawn slopes.
  • Beautiful gardens with plenty of space to go and sit and enjoy your lunch under the shade of a tree. My favourite escape from the office
  • Really good place for the seat of Government. Directly on the river, easily approachable by boat in the night, easily scalable walls and no visible guards. A+ would besiege again.
  • Nice place to visit

Where to stay in Perth

When you choose your Perth accommodations, remember that this city stretches over a wide area, which can cause issues for visitors with limited time to sightsee. The best way to remain close to urban transportation is to stay in the central business district or neighboring Northbridge, where you'll also find the greatest selection of hotels. To avoid the center's big crowds and steep hotel prices, consider booking a room in the coastal town of Mandurah, easily accessible by Perth's reliable suburban railway system.
