When you're in downtown Perth, take a moment to admire the Barracks Arch. It stands as the only remaining part of The Barracks, a three-story Tudor-style complex that resembles a medieval castle and housed convict-ship guards in pension. The local government planned to demolish the entire complex in the 1960s to clear space for a highway, but city residents protested and officials decided to leave the arch standing as a compromise. View it from the side to see how thin the structure is. Arrange to visit Barracks Arch and other attractions in Perth using our Perth itinerary builder.
