Hunter Valley Zoo Reviews
My kids loved it here! We got there just in time for the Koala talk. They were so excited to be able to pet the Koala and the Wombat. We got the feed bag and went in with the kangaroos and the emu. We... more »

For a zoo in the hunter valley and not the city it is quiet good. It is like a smaller version of a major zoo although it doesn't have elephants or giraffes it does have a whole lot of other animals. ... more »
Absolutely awesome some experience I had here. Some Zoos can be a saddening experience, but this place definitely wasn't. The staff genuinely care a great deal about the animals, and this is reflected in his happy and healthy they are. Make sure you spend the extra on the Meerkat experience, it was brilliant. You get to sit on the ground and hand feed them, and have them running and climbing all over you. Definitely a place you must visit, and somewhere I'll be coming back to often. Have BBQ areas dotted throughout the place too, would be an awesome place for a party.
A little pricey for the size but it's the easiest and safest way to get close to the wild life you came to see. Yeah you can see kangaroos in the nearby treelines as long as you're patient, quiet, still, and lucky or you can just go to the hunter valley zoo walk right up to them and say hey buddy you want to eat these pellets out of my hand? Yes? No? How about this ice cream cone? Yeah I know what you like. Maybe get a fist bump on camera while you watch them eat. Also get a chance to see some dingos, koalas, a Tasmanian devil and many other local animals (No platypus though).
My partner and I went to the zoo for my birthday, thinking it would be very small and only take an hour or 2 out of our day and have some basic animals and enclosures. We were wrong, it was brilliant! We ended up staying for the better part of 5 hours. It was larger than we imagined, and the animal talks were spaced evenly and well timed. All the keepers were super knowledgeable about their animals and had time to answer any questions and chat. They were really friendly also! Since tourist season had finished there weren't many people there either, so there were no crowds to battle with, and we had no difficulty getting up close to the enclosures. We did visit on quite a hot day and definitely didn't take enough water. There are cool drinks available for purchase etc but I'd recommend making sure you have plenty of iced water, especially if you're taking children in the middle of the day. Also be sure to keep up with sunscreen applications, I got a little burnt because I lost track of time and we were standing in the sun quite a lot. Overall it was an incredibly positive experience for only $30 and we will visit again if we come back to the Hunter Valley! Thanks to all the keepers and staff for making our visit thoroughly enjoyable!!
We went on Thursday and it was fabulous. Friendly staff. Great set up so you can see the animals up close. Plus for $5 you get 3 bags of feed to share with the animals. Lots of seating and space to have a bbq so you can bring your own food. Actually it would be great if there was a cafe or something too as we got pretty hungry. Highly recommended.
Had a great time there, took my nephews that are 5 and 10 years old they love it. We went to the alligator feeding where the staff did a great job with all there alligator facts then after the show we started talking to one of the staff members, it just happened to be the owner of the zoo, he stood and spoke with us for a good 1/2 an jour with his young son by his side, he spoke with great passion for the zoo and i highly recommend that people go and visit and support family owned zoo. This was my third visit there and was awesome to see the owners passion in running this zoo. Well done guys
