St. Barnabas Chapel, Norfolk Island

4.3
#2 of 9 in Historic Sites in Norfolk Island
Amidst a tranquil setting, the marble front of St. Barnabas Chapel glistens in the sun. Enter the massive dark timber to discover pews inlaid with mother-of-pearl shells and rose windows. Used by England’s missionary workers, the chapel was built using stone from ruins of the New Gaol. A small cemetery with intriguing headstones and a huge fig tree in the back further add to the heritage. Where to stay in Norfolk Island

Guesthouses and bed and breakfasts remain the best mid-range options. If you need luxuries like a swimming pool and an onsite restaurant, opt for one of the island's resorts. Burnt Pine, the central settlement, serves as the most popular place to stay, offering the best access to Norfolk Island's small airport. For scenic ocean views, stay in a hillside lodge near the coastal village of Kingston, the island's capital.
