Trip Planner : South Pacific / Australia / Norfolk Island / Nature / Norfolk Island National Park & Botanic Garden
Norfolk Island National Park & Botanic Garden, Norfolk Island
Categories: National Parks, Gardens, Nature & Parks
Comprised of three islands with some of the most beautiful hiking in the region, Norfolk Island National Park & Botanic Garden is practically untouched by human development. Thick evergreens blanket the crags along the coast where you'll find lookout points with plaques providing information about sights in the vicinity. Hike to Captain Cook's Monument, which pays homage to the famous captain who named the island, then visit Mrs. Moore's Botanic Garden. Mrs. Moore purchased property on Norfolk island in 1949 and began cultivating the local plant species inside her own garden. Wanting to share her collection of local fauna with the public she allowed the Norfolk Island Administration to take over in 1975. Tour this labor of love as the artfully arranged Norfolk Botanic Gardens.
