Mount Pitt, Norfolk Island

4.4
#1 of 9 in Nature in Norfolk Island
Hike up to Mount Pitt for a full view of Norfolk Island from high above the fog and clouds. These cliffs and steep slopes, situated inside the Norfolk Island National Park, support a thriving community of native shrubs, herbaceous plants, and climbers, and preserve a few precious tracts of nearly extinct indigenous seashore vegetation. At 320 meters (990 ft), this peak is the second highest point on the island. At this location you can also join the popular "Summit Walk" to Mount Bates, the highest peak on Norfolk, but be sure to wear comfortable shoes, and don’t forget your camera. Where to stay in Norfolk Island

Guesthouses and bed and breakfasts remain the best mid-range options. If you need luxuries like a swimming pool and an onsite restaurant, opt for one of the island's resorts. Burnt Pine, the central settlement, serves as the most popular place to stay, offering the best access to Norfolk Island's small airport. For scenic ocean views, stay in a hillside lodge near the coastal village of Kingston, the island's capital.
