Take your time to walk around cobalt blue The Blue Lake, located in an extinct volcanic crater. You will be rewarded with spectacular view of the lake from various aspects. The lake color ranges from shimmering blue in summer to steely gray in winter. The color changes are most likely due to calcite crystals in the water. Take the glass-paneled elevator down to access the lake, where you can picnic or hang out at the RV park. Using our custom trip planner, Mount Gambier attractions like The Blue Lake can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • Absolutely beautiful. Totally recommended. Try walking up the hills nearby to have view of both lakes. Also the tour to the surface is good enough. They guys who was leading the tour was kind of boring but some of the facts and pictures on the walls of old pump house was worth it. Buy the tickets from the cafe at the front door.
  • Would be a great place to walk around if it wasn't raining.
  • We can go round the lake taking photos. Some lookouts are very visible to the lake. The lake was blue when we were there ( late nov)
  • Deep blue lake. You must see this place if you stay in Mt Gambier. The lake is the bluest in Nov.
