  • Huge place, several specimens, well taken care of. Concert of birds is super cool, it's worth it. Attractions with interactions with kangaroos, giraffes and koalas.

  • We visited the zoo on a Wednesday. No crowds. Getting to the zoo was easy using the ferry. I bought the tickets online and saved AU$5/ticket. The zoo is very spacious and it has a great view of the br...  more »
  • Loved the zoo. Got a ticket through the ferry from darling harbor which was heaps easy and meant we could skip the line up into the zoo. Great place, gift shop was average tho.  more »

  • WOW!! One of the nicest zoos I have ever been to. Got the koala experience, which allows you to get close to a koala, but you don't get to touch it. There are other places that offer this, though. Our son did the Wild Ropes and loved it! The exhibits were well-designed and the animals presented were fascinating. The bird show was fun and you get a free view of Sydney from a prime location. I highly recommend you make Taronga a must do! It will take a full day to enjoy.
  • One of the best places I've been to in Australia. It's huge and the ride to the zoo is really nice. The zoo is well-organized. Animals are amazing. I love this place and will definitely come back here for the animals. My favorites are dolphins and penguins, no words can describe their cuteness.
  • Terrific way to spend a day in Sydney! This is one of the best zoos I've ever visited. It starts with the ferry - no need for a harbor cruise, just go to the zoo (Opal cards are a great way to save, as is purchasing zoo entry tickets ahead online). Then a gondola ride to make sure you get views in case you missed some on the ferry. The animal enclosures are exceptionally well maintained and well designed to let visitors see the animals and learn about them. Bird show was terrific, short but quite entertaining and looking directly out across at downtown. The grounds are beautifully maintained with lovely plantings everywhere. The turkeys are a hilarious unplanned addition, scratching the mulch all over the place and wandering about, along with ibises. The Australian animals alone kept us busy for a half day, with various enclosures, some of which allowed direct contact (watch out for dive bombing parrots!). Really great day trip, highly recommend!
  • Visited on a winter's afternoon and it was a terrific day. The animals were very active because feeding time was close by, which in my experience is the time you should aim to visit zoos. The chimpanzees and monkeys were a delight to watch. I was surprised there were so many baby animals about and I think that is a sign of the quality of the zoo. The cafe/restaurant near the top entrance was reasonably priced and won't break the bank for small families. There are also many grassy areas to sit at if you would like to bring along a picnic.
  • The zoo is good for families and groups to spend a couple of hours. The seal show and the movies screenings happen round the day. The tiger trek concept is different. The zoo area is well marked and very clear instructions. The map however is not so clear and accurate. The different sections marking animals of different types makes it good to view. People can feed kangaroos and wallabies there and there is staff available for assistance. Friendly people working there. Sky cable car to go there is also fun and good. If you're lucky you end up seeing elephants and some other animals from the top before you even enter the zoo. The animals are kept behind a fence but this has been done by maintaining their natural habitat like environment around, trying to make them feel at home as much as possible. This is a good thing they have done. Enough places to eat and sit. Some good picnic spots. The zoo is easily accessible by public transport- ferry, trains, bus. It's a day well spent.
