Carrick Hill, Mitcham

(4.7/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web)
See a large collection of drawings, sculptures, antiques, and paintings at historic Carrick Hill, which once served as home to Sir Edward Hayward, a prominent local businessman. Designed to resemble an English manor, the house was completed in 1939. Today, the property is one of few such period sites in Australia to have survived virtually unchanged and with most of its original furnishings still in place. Original owners fitted the house with an impressive inner staircase, which they brought all the way from Europe, where they spent a year-long honeymoon. Today, the property hosts regular themed art and social history exhibitions, as well as other cultural events. • Wonderful place for different reasons - enjoy the gardens, the house with a fascinating history, the café or the exhibitions. You will need plenty of time if you want to do it all. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. In the café the food is high quality. The coffee wasn't the best I've had but drinkable. Great views of the city and a photographer's dream. The house is full of antique art works and furniture, and the gardens have statues and 'rooms' to explore and enjoy. Affordable entry fees. A must do experience.
  • Beautiful gardens for children to play in, complete with a story book trail for little people to explore. Bonus of great food and coffee too.
  • Only went for a walk around the place, haven't been in yet. But it was pretty cool
  • Very nice park even rain . We still love it . Just coffee need more warm
  • Absolutely the best destination in Adelaide. Something for everyone, art, food, gardens, history. The finest collection seen in Adelaide.
