Trip Planner: South Pacific / Australia / New South Wales / Greater Sydney / North Sydney / Milsons Point / Luna Park Sydney
Luna Park Sydney is a heritage-listed amusement park located at 1 Olympic Drive, Milsons Point, North Sydney Council, New South Wales, Australia, on the northern shore of Sydney Harbour. The amusement park is owned by the Luna Park Reserve Trust, an agency of the Government of New South Wales, and was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 5 March 2010.Plan your visit to Luna Park Sydney and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Milsons Point tour planning website.
The park was constructed during 1935 approximately 600 metres (2,000 ft) from the northern approaches of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and ran for seventy-month seasons until 1972, when it was opened year-round. Luna Park was closed in mid-1979, immediately following the Ghost Train fire, which killed six children and one adult. Most of the park was demolished, and a new amusement park was constructed; this originally operated under the name of Harbourside Amusement Park before resuming the Luna Park name. The park was closed again in 1988 as an independent engineering inspection determined that several rides needed urgent repair. The owners failed to repair and reopen the park before a New South Wales government deadline, and ownership was passed to a new body.
Reopening in 1995, Luna Park closed again after thirteen months because of the Big Dipper rollercoaster: noise pollution complaints from residents on the clifftop above the park caused the ride's operating hours to be heavily restricted, and the resultant drop in attendance made the park unprofitable. After another redevelopment, Luna Park reopened in 2004 and has continued operating since.
Luna Park is one of two amusement parks in the world that are protected by government legislation; several of the buildings on the site are also listed on the (now defunct) Register of the National Estate and the New South Wales State Heritage Register. The park has been utilised as a filming location for several movies and television shows.
Luna Park Sydney reviews
Luna Park are extremely unreasonable and money hungry. We bought 6 tickets at $300 for 29th December. Due to public health advice we decided it was best not to travel to Sydney from the central west..... more »
The overall experience was great for my entire family. The objective to have a family friend environmental to see the fireworks was definitely achieved. The stairs at the entrance were pretty... more »

This is a super fun little theme park! The rides are great for both adults and kids, there's enough to do to keep you entertained for a few hours. The nostalgia of the place is really great too, I love the retro carnival vibes this place has! Only thing is that it's a bit more expensive than what it's worth in my mind, especially the food (you're looking at almost $6 for a bottle of coke, and most of the meals at the diners are around the $20 mark). With tickets it's easy to spend about $200 for a half-day visit. It's a pretty small park too so it's easy to do everything in just a couple of hours. Other than that it's a really fun park and a real testament of its time! 🎡
An amazing visit to an iconic theme park with the (grown)family. Blown away by the fact that the nostalgic ambience was still there in the set out and in the rides and shows. Caters for all ages and even those into the extreme "fun". No charge to simply walk around was a nice change to most other venues on our travels.
Free Entry: Luna Park has kept it’s heritage and added modern rides. For great views the ferris wheel is a must see. As far as theme parks go, it is fairly small, but they pack in a lot of rides. The appeal is Sydney Harbour, if your older, the bars and nearby restaurants. You can also hire rooms or even the entire park for functions. They loose one star for neglecting the small parcel of land next door. Photo: Luna Park is the bright lights to the left of the photo.
Great day. Kids loved it. Food on pricey side. Great rides. Line up on some rides can take up to 30mintues. Great view of the harbor. Good atmosphere day and night. Yearly pass is worth it. Friendly staff. Different types of food to choose from 3+ Restaurant and Bars.. My youngest tried fairy floss for the first time and loved it. A small bag $4. On a stick $5... Great day with family....👍
Always a fun day out! Came here for my nephew's birthday party and while it was a warm day, it was a lot of fun. The sideshow games were fun and staff were sweet with the kids. We only had difficulties exiting the car park as our free entry car park pass didn't work but otherwise the day went by seamlessly!!
