Yarra River, Melbourne

4.4
#4 of 252 in Nature in Victoria
By day, you can enjoy walking, jogging, or cycling up one side of Yarra River, through the parks and paved paths of Southbank Promenade. These paths lead visitors toward an impressive array of sports arenas, including the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Rod Laver Centre, and the former Olympic stadium. On the Central Business District side of the river, you can stop at a bar or cafe before heading into the center of the city. At night, the cityscape visible from the riverside is bright and vibrant, and the views up and down the river from the higher floors of buildings, such as the harbor-side Hilton, are particularly notable. • Nice to walk along the river, plenty of bridge crossings. A bit dirty after some rain but still worth a wander or a cruise  more »
  • Melbourne is a beautiful city and the Yarra and its banks, especially the southbank distric,t is a great place to spend some time. It's a very picturesque skyline down by the waters edge and there are...  more »
  • Across the bridge from Flinders Street station, the weather was nice, a walk in the Park. Line bridge of objets d'art, Christmas decoration, restaurant and Café. Crown, shop, Christmas trees, and also different bridge, returned. Hinata was the Sun, but shade is helpful.

  • A very happening place. Always street talents are displayed here. One of the best location to get a good glimple of Melbourne at night.
  • I was crossing the bridge once and I accidentally fell in, luckily the river was so polluted that I didn't sink and just kind of just splat on the surface, like landing in a big vat of yoghurt (though not as tasty).
  • You can definitely shoot here one of Melbourne's most iconic panoramas.
  • Scenic 👪👌💃👍
  • Picturesque and the rest of the day

Where to stay in Melbourne

The hub of tourist and commercial activity, the center of Melbourne remains the best place to stay if you're looking to splurge and enjoy every possible modern amenity during your visit. Travelers on a limited budget can search for cozy yet less expensive rooms in the seaside suburb of St Kilda or the bohemian neighborhood of Fitzroy. Though the city center offers more than a fair share of mid-range lodging options, you'll also find plenty of rooms in this price bracket in the quieter suburbs.
