  • Hall went in after watching the old Melbourne gaol Museum. Exclusively look tourism was put in hours only! Interesting, watch making I can see the panoramic view from the opposite side of the street, such as Temple of Greece. Approaching such pillars as dense and unprocessed, such as sculpture, so I see from afar the good.

  • FOUR STARS FOR THE GREAT BONES OF THE BUILDING! The Victorian Trades Hall Council occupies a beautiful, but sadly negelected, building on the corner of Victoria and Lygon Sts. Its not a public building but its worth walking along the street to get a sense of an important part of the development of Australia's industrial relations system. There is a lot of history encapsulated in this building and even today it is often draped in campaign banners concerning workers rights. The early days of the Australian labour movement saw stonemasons walk off the job (a building at the new Melbourne University) in 1856 in support of better working hours. The "eight hour work day" was born from this and there is a monument on the opposite corner commemorating this outcome.
  • I've been reading lots of reviews about this building, and while I support many of them talking about how poorly maintained the Trades Hall was, today (October 1st 2017) news about a massive restoration project surprised me in a good way. Ahead of this project, conservators from the University of Melbourne have found paintings under decades of layers of painting. The experts are now releasing interesting facts about this centennial building, most of the paintings are historic portraits. The Trades Hall will not only refurbish their walls and ceilings, but, luckily now, it will display their rich history for us to discover.
  • Historic old venue for many diverse small events. Arrive early as some rooms hard to find.
  • The building itself is poorly maintained and needs a lot of restoration work. The site still houses some interesting history however.
  • Great Venue! Very spacious rooms perfect for parties or events.

Where to stay in Melbourne

The hub of tourist and commercial activity, the center of Melbourne remains the best place to stay if you're looking to splurge and enjoy every possible modern amenity during your visit. Travelers on a limited budget can search for cozy yet less expensive rooms in the seaside suburb of St Kilda or the bohemian neighborhood of Fitzroy. Though the city center offers more than a fair share of mid-range lodging options, you'll also find plenty of rooms in this price bracket in the quieter suburbs.
