South Melbourne Market, Melbourne

4.5
The maze of specialty shops set up in Victorian-style, wood-and-red-brick building where South Melbourne Market resides offers everything from fruits to silver jewelry. Open since 1867, the market is Melbourne's longest-running one. Among the many stalls, you'll find fresh produce, internatioal cuisine such as dim sum and Turkish gozleme, gifts, housewares, and men's and women's fashions. You can also learn recipes and techniques in cooking classes that Melbourne chefs regularly host here. • Ford short market where many types of cuisines are represented in a noisy atmosphere. Don't be too much riding on hygiene.

  • Great produce, meat, seafood and deli items. Always my go to when looking for unusual ingredients. Great coffee and the almond croissants are amazing. Love the cheese cave at Emerald Hill Deli and the fresh oysters. There's also a few delicious restaurants and a great local vibe.
  • Everything you need for your cooking needs all in one place. There is also lots of food and drink around and a number of art and craft shops. Parking is available but there are peak times during the day when it might take a little extra time to find.
  • Lots of things to see and eat!! Not as big as the Queen Victoria Market, but it has a real nice feel for it. Lots of different stores so you're sure to find something for everyone. Great fruit and veg stalls. Nice for a visit.
  • Amazing marketplace. Great food everywhere, fresh produce with plenty on offer. Always love coming here!
  • Top-quality fresh veggies, fruit, fish, meat and loads of other quality goods. Wide choice of organic and biodynamic food, a health food store packed with natural/macrobiotic remedies of very high quality. A tip: go around 3pm on Sunday to get the best bargains on fruit/veggies!

Where to stay in Melbourne

The hub of tourist and commercial activity, the center of Melbourne remains the best place to stay if you're looking to splurge and enjoy every possible modern amenity during your visit. Travelers on a limited budget can search for cozy yet less expensive rooms in the seaside suburb of St Kilda or the bohemian neighborhood of Fitzroy. Though the city center offers more than a fair share of mid-range lodging options, you'll also find plenty of rooms in this price bracket in the quieter suburbs.
