Flea Market
The maze of specialty shops set up in Victorian-style, wood-and-red-brick building where South Melbourne Market resides offers everything from fruits to silver jewelry. Open since 1867, the market is Melbourne's longest-running one. Among the many stalls, you'll find fresh produce, internatioal cuisine such as dim sum and Turkish gozleme, gifts, housewares, and men's and women's fashions. You can also learn recipes and techniques in cooking classes that Melbourne chefs regularly host here. • We were staying just round the corner from this excellent market with a great vibe. Food prices are better that the stores and the quality of produce is very high. A great place to go for lunch. Open ...  more »
  • I don't think this place is as good as it used to be but good to have a look around anyway. Can find some good stuff if you look.  more »
  • One of my favourite places in the outskirts of the CBD. the vibe is awesome and the food is even better. Get a fish sandwich or a gozleme.. you will thank me !  more »

  • Nice market. You can buy your groceries but also find little gems where to buy good guality meat / fish / pastries.. Complemented with good restaurants to buy take away or dinner in.. And of course, and amazing cooking school where to learn to cook amazing dishes, and where to buy your ingredients
  • Great for local fare and a wide range of cuisine. It does get busy (very) over the weekend, and parking can become an issue. It's a great idea to ride a bike in, and get your shopping done. Great music with live performers on most weekends.
  • Very good market to pick up a range of things including your fresh fruit and veggies. Great place to eat, though my lack of 5 star is due to one part of the market is a small food court type of area. Over the last few years this has been updated so that they are all trendy cafe's - couldn't get a serve of hot chips for my 5 year old without going to the other end.
  • This is my favorite market in Melbourne! Not too big or too small so you can see and taste as much as possible, but it isn't over in 20mins. Plus there are always great deals on produce (especially if you find the discount tables). Coffee, food, clothing: there is a top notch selection of each
  • One of my favourite places in Melbourne. The amazing atmosphere providers by the hustle and bustle only a market can bring. The value for money is there too, especially for fruit vegetables and meat and fish. The standard of the shops continues to improve as well as more new shops opening which continue with the same feel and friendly atmosphere.
