Prahran Market, Melbourne

4.3
It’s all about taste at historic Prahran Market, one of Melbourne’s finest and most popular fresh food markets. Located in the same location for over 125 years, the market features a number of trendy cafés and a variety of stalls and shops selling fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, fish, and deli products. Known locally as "the food lover's market" because of the quality and range of foods on sale, the market also offers specialty and hard-to-find items, such as exotic cheeses, game, and heritage varieties of regional fruits and vegetables, grown by local farmers. This is the only market in the city with its own square, which often hosts cultural performances and includes a children’s playground. • one of the best places in melbourne to get quality produce and supplies. more for locals than a tourist attraction but still worth a look  more »
  • During my Melbourne visit several times visited the market. Nice to stroll around, tasty to the shopping, very good to the coffee drink (market lane coffee). Good to reach - by bus and tram. The market is covered, and thus you can visit weather-independent him. A wide range that you would often like to at home before the front door. Kilinarisch very much to discover and try out.

  • After moving to Melbourne from Sydney 18mths agi, I am luck enough to live 5 mins away and visit the market at least once every weekend. Def best place for fresh fruit/veg, seafood, deli goods and mea...  more »

  • It's good, but the worst part is it's expensive. If you have money to burn and want to buy organic everything, then this will be fine. For the rest of us on an income of less than $500,000 a year, I'd advise you to treat it more like a deli, get the special things you want from here but the supermarket is generally cheaper. I found that the nut place was fairly priced, and some places sold meat and cheese at reasonable prices, but if you think it's called a market and therefore sells at a discount that's not correct. The Lebanese patisserie makes great desserts, the Gozleme is great but almost nothing is cheap.
  • Best quality in products... this market has it all. Has different foodie festivals throughout the year... not to be missed! Awesome place with a great vibe
  • A bit pricey but a nice spot to have lunch and take home some treats. The live band on Saturdays makes the atmosphere really enjoyable. Would recommend a visit on the weekend if you're visiting the area.
  • Prahran Market has an amazing variety of organic ingredients from meat, to vegetables. Its almost like a hipster market, but I find it quite expensive. Its a great place for visiting once, but not to really buy the produces.
  • This is a splendid fresh food Market. We enjoyed our visit here and were very suitably impressed with the great quality produce. We were able to stock up on dried fruits, fresh fruit, cheese, fresh pasta, pantry items, and the absolute best Turkish Delight and Halva. Enjoy your visit

Where to stay in Melbourne

The hub of tourist and commercial activity, the center of Melbourne remains the best place to stay if you're looking to splurge and enjoy every possible modern amenity during your visit. Travelers on a limited budget can search for cozy yet less expensive rooms in the seaside suburb of St Kilda or the bohemian neighborhood of Fitzroy. Though the city center offers more than a fair share of mid-range lodging options, you'll also find plenty of rooms in this price bracket in the quieter suburbs.
