Prahran Market, Melbourne

#6 of 35 in Shopping in Melbourne
Farmers Market Flea Market
It’s all about taste at historic Prahran Market, one of Melbourne’s finest and most popular fresh food markets. Located in the same location for over 125 years, the market features a number of trendy cafés and a variety of stalls and shops selling fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, fish, and deli products. Known locally as "the food lover's market" because of the quality and range of foods on sale, the market also offers specialty and hard-to-find items, such as exotic cheeses, game, and heritage varieties of regional fruits and vegetables, grown by local farmers. This is the only market in the city with its own square, which often hosts cultural performances and includes a children’s playground. Where to stay in Melbourne

The hub of tourist and commercial activity, the center of Melbourne remains the best place to stay if you're looking to splurge and enjoy every possible modern amenity during your visit. Travelers on a limited budget can search for cozy yet less expensive rooms in the seaside suburb of St Kilda or the bohemian neighborhood of Fitzroy. Though the city center offers more than a fair share of mid-range lodging options, you'll also find plenty of rooms in this price bracket in the quieter suburbs.

  • My local market. I shop for all my fruit and veg here. If I'm lucky I can get a large box of veg that lasts me a week for $10 ! The place is also great for those with a sweet tooth: ice cream shop, chocolate specialist shop and a specialist Turkish Delight store. My only complaint is the lack of bicycle parking and the pavement can be dangerous for cyclists too.
  • We were recommended the Prahran market by our airbnb hosts - what a great recommendation it was. I really enjoyed this market with its fresh produce, delicious eateries, and daily bustle. Grab morning coffee from Jasper's Coffee, followed by a fabulous grilled cheese sandwich from Maker & Monger (i recommend the Pimento 110%). Finish off with delicious Baklava at Abla's Patisserie. Grab a few delicious cuts of meats and fresh seafood before heading back to prepare your next meal.
  • The Prahan Market has everything you will ever need to prepare an awesome meal. The outside area with live music invites for a rest and it's nice. However, the market is pricy and if you want to save money, look for special offers or go somewhere else, to for example the Queen Vic market.
  • TOP quality fresh seafood and ingredients 😍 The best ingredients for home cooked food. Price is reasonable too for the quality and quantity.
  • Amazing market. Great variety and great food. I wish I had something like this in Sydney.
