  • Free museum, interesting exhibits, not too crowded. Lovely welcoming staff. Vaults exhibition under construction at time of visit.
  • Interesting place. The old treasury building in my opinion looks much nicer than the featureless new one sitting right behind it. There's a vault underground that you can go in to visit. No admission fee is needed. I ended up learning a lot more about the history of this city.
  • Very interesting place to visit for the history of Victoria and the gold rush times. Fun for children as well.
  • Nice place which tells you about the history of bush rangers and Ned Kelly as well as the gold mining days.
  • It's the best place to discover the history of the foundation of Australia.

Where to stay in Melbourne

The hub of tourist and commercial activity, the center of Melbourne remains the best place to stay if you're looking to splurge and enjoy every possible modern amenity during your visit. Travelers on a limited budget can search for cozy yet less expensive rooms in the seaside suburb of St Kilda or the bohemian neighborhood of Fitzroy. Though the city center offers more than a fair share of mid-range lodging options, you'll also find plenty of rooms in this price bracket in the quieter suburbs.
