Hosier Lane, Melbourne

4.2
Mosey down Hosier Lane to see some of Australia's finest street art. Graffiti falls short as a term for describing most of the graphics adorning the building walls. The artists intend for their elaborate works to provoke thought the same way art in more traditional media does. Like many formal art galleries and museums, the works along the street constantly change as artists create new pieces. After viewing the street gallery, pop into one of the nearby upscale cocktail lounges for a refreshment. • Here you can go if you want to look at the street art that has taken over an entire alley in Melbourne. Here you will find both good and bad art, but it might be worth a visit if you are in the neighborhood.

  • Located in the heart of Melbourne, Hosier lane is one of the top tourist attractions in Melbourne. The lanes are full of graffiti and you can take many instagrammable pictures here. There are many cafes nearby and you can walk around, have some coffee and enjoy the vibe here
  • Melbourne is known as one of the world’s great street art capitals for its unique expressions of art displayed on approved outdoor locations throughout the city. Declared a “graffiti tolerance zone” by the city council, Hosier Lane exhibits masterpieces of high intensity and density. Hosier Lane can be found off Flinders Street; a 5-minute walk from Flinders Street Railway Station. This cobblestoned narrow lane offers graffiti covered walls along its entire length. Located in a prominent position in the city and adorned with sophisticated urban art, Hosier Lane is a celebrated landmark in Melbourne, Victoria. The art here is ever-changing, in-your-face and primarily political. I enjoyed walking down the lane, taking in the art and revelling in its vibe. The beautiful collection of characters, colours and messages are mesmerising. Within a few minutes of being here, it is easy to forget where you are and feel like it is a fantasy land from the movies. The lane is always filled with visitors enjoying taking photographs of themselves and loved ones with the art as a grand backdrop. There are a few cocktail lounges and restaurants at the entrance to the lane and in the lane itself. The energy here is light, friendly and enjoyable. We heard that the lane was also featured in MasterChef Australia.
  • The coolest laneway in Melbourne in my opinion -- tons of great rotating artwork, not far from AC/DC Lane, but with more wallspace (and sometimes more crowds)
  • Terrific place for Photographers and Art lovers. An ever changing street art display in which u have to look hi and low. Close to Melbourne's main rail station and tram services pass the street - LOVED IT !!!!
  • An ever changing city canvas If you like that sort of thing.. . Also home to a few crazies and an uncountable number of tourists. Probably the most photographed lane in the city but don't let that stop you trying to get the perfect picture. You can do it. No-one else might believe in you but I do.
