Hosier Lane, Melbourne

4.2
Mosey down Hosier Lane to see some of Australia's finest street art. Graffiti falls short as a term for describing most of the graphics adorning the building walls. The artists intend for their elaborate works to provoke thought the same way art in more traditional media does. Like many formal art galleries and museums, the works along the street constantly change as artists create new pieces. After viewing the street gallery, pop into one of the nearby upscale cocktail lounges for a refreshment. • Loved this Street Art what would be an otherwise drab lane way is now a colourful walkway that fills people with enjoyment. Totally loved it.  more »
  • I must say, the spray painted colourful walls was surprisingly beautiful! It was very nicely done, adding colours to the dull alley. There were Santa Minion, Simpsons and a number of others. Happen to...  more »

  • Terrific place for Photographers and Art lovers. An ever changing street art display in which u have to look hi and low. Close to Melbourne's main rail station and tram services pass the street - LOVED IT !!!!
  • generally busy, but one of the best places to start if interested in the city's street art. changes frequently so is always worth revisiting, and there's a sweet little coffee shop/store there that's sometimes open.
  • An ever changing city canvas If you like that sort of thing.. . Also home to a few crazies and an uncountable number of tourists. Probably the most photographed lane in the city but don't let that stop you trying to get the perfect picture. You can do it. No-one else might believe in you but I do.
  • I'm not so sure what so special here with the horrible layers after layers of graffitti instead of beaitifull street art. The small backlane is actually full of gabbage bins. Smelly like...while taking pictures
  • Definitely one of the popular go-to places to check out the street art when in Melbourne. Lots of people always stopping by to take photos here. The art definitely makes for a great backdrop, and there's always something new as the art changes regularly.

Where to stay in Melbourne

The hub of tourist and commercial activity, the center of Melbourne remains the best place to stay if you're looking to splurge and enjoy every possible modern amenity during your visit. Travelers on a limited budget can search for cozy yet less expensive rooms in the seaside suburb of St Kilda or the bohemian neighborhood of Fitzroy. Though the city center offers more than a fair share of mid-range lodging options, you'll also find plenty of rooms in this price bracket in the quieter suburbs.
