#8 of 18 in Historic Sites in Melbourne
Considered one of the city’s finest mansions, Como includes a large collection of antique furniture, providing a rare look into the lifestyle of the site’s former wealthy inhabitants. Constructed over 160 years ago, the mansion was designed for Sir Edward Eyre Williams, a prominent lawyer and judge. Today, the historic house and its manicured gardens are a tourist attraction offering insight into the development of the city through the ages. The property is considered the jewel of South Yarra, a chic district of upscale shopping and fine dining. Wander the gardens for a few relaxing hours or visit the house for a valuable history lesson, but keep in mind that visits to this site must be pre-booked well in advance. Great service. Very good people and easily accommodating. I had to change a third party booking at short notice and they found a solution very quickly. Made my group booking very easy. Rooms are quite large and quite funky.

The lounge setting at the ticket box is old style with scattered comfortable armchairs. One can share an intimate drink or food experience at any of these little table settings within comfortable lighting. Most importantly the theatre seats are more comfortable than the new Chadstone theatres.

Where to stay in Melbourne

The hub of tourist and commercial activity, the center of Melbourne remains the best place to stay if you're looking to splurge and enjoy every possible modern amenity during your visit. Travelers on a limited budget can search for cozy yet less expensive rooms in the seaside suburb of St Kilda or the bohemian neighborhood of Fitzroy. Though the city center offers more than a fair share of mid-range lodging options, you'll also find plenty of rooms in this price bracket in the quieter suburbs.
