  • This is an excellent Bank Museum in the former ES&A Bank that looks more like a church than a bank. It is built in the Gothic style. Westpac had a banking Museum at 6 Playfair Street The Rocks but sad...  more »
  • We went there because it was close to our hotel and from the road you could see the decorated ceilings that we were intrigued. We had read that there was in a Museum (besides a bank normally functioning) though or the Museum was poor or what we saw was not really the Museum ... In fact all there were Bank and it was not clear where you were going to visit the Palace. However, the ceilings, the walls, the decorations were really nice, but to see in 10 min.

  • Strolling in the beautiful Collins Street we stopped several times to enter to visit buildings of great interest already outside. This Bank made near the end of the 19th century really got fascinated; in fact it is a complex of buildings, with the merging of two ancient banks including ANZ skyscraper. The gothic revival already evident in the exterior elevations, as if it were a cathedral, inside is an explosion of iron columns and capitals and cast iron or stone and stucco, all finely decorated ... Anywhere he can visit is a must see!

  • Cool place to visit when you are ANZ customer. Historical building and friendly staff. Not crowded and very quick service.
  • It's mostly a museum for ANZ banon-Australians may not enjoy it as much. It does have interesting world history timeline along one wall, as well as examples of historic Australian currency, but that's less than half of this one-room, basement "museum". There was also a haunting audio loop of various voices playing in the room, which was more annoying than anything else. Check it out if you enjoy ANZ bank piggy banks and broken typewriters.
  • Great free exhibition that the bank puts on. Also walk around the bank to see how they have preserved the building
  • Absolutely stunning bank!
  • Great timeline of ANZ's history and heritage. Lovely collection of little coin boxes and old banking equipment.

Where to stay in Melbourne

The hub of tourist and commercial activity, the center of Melbourne remains the best place to stay if you're looking to splurge and enjoy every possible modern amenity during your visit. Travelers on a limited budget can search for cozy yet less expensive rooms in the seaside suburb of St Kilda or the bohemian neighborhood of Fitzroy. Though the city center offers more than a fair share of mid-range lodging options, you'll also find plenty of rooms in this price bracket in the quieter suburbs.
