d'Arenberg Wines, McLaren Vale

4.1
#1 of 75 in Wineries in Greater Adelaide
Since 1912 the Osborn family have tended vineyards in McLaren Vale, South Australia. Today fourth generation family member Chester makes distinctive wines using traditional methods both in the vineyard and the winery.

From entry level to iconic, d’Arenberg wines are hand crafted with all grapes basket pressed and red wines fermented in small batch open fermenters and foot trod. The red striped range is considerable with 37 wines making use of over 25 varieties including white, red, fortified, sparkling red and dessert wines. Over a thousand show medals and praise from wine scribes the world over attest to their merits.

  • Driving past d'Arenberg I watched the Cube slowly rising up above the vines but didn't get to visit it until yesterday, what an interesting and fabulous building, it really deserves at least one visit...  more »

  • D'Arenberg winery is architecturally stunning. As you drive towards it, this marvelous cube is surrounded by beautiful sculptures and vine trees. With a $10 entry fee, you get an entry to a self-guided tour of the Alternate Realities Museum, which is extremely fun and unique compared to everything I have ever seen. The wine variety is fantastic, they have a great variety to taste. Oh before I forget do yourself a favour and check out the toilets, they are beautiful.
  • Excellent customer service and wine knowledge. Tasting room in the cube was great, views were spectacular. Shout out to Adam who saw to our tasting. He was funny, knowledgeable and treated our group fantastically. Would recommend, don't be scared by the $10 entry fee they take care of you in the cube!
  • $10 entry fee for children was not family friendly. Staff were pushy when we entered the cube we were told to go into 360 degree video room (where there was already a large group)before we had finished exploring inhalation room. One would presume staff should encourage exploration of cube areas rather than rush them.
  • Too overcrowded, two floors closed for private tastings. Wines didn’t meet our expectations, even $70 iconic wines tasted just average. The views are nice though, but $10 just for a view? Not worth going.
  • The shed/barn from the out side did not appear to be a cellar and wine room but surprisingly very nice inside. This wine room is set out with varnished wood with simple but high end displays set in a old style barn. Very helpful staff in the “shed” providing additional details on wines and assisting us with all our purchases. A must visit after dinner or a visit to the cube.
