Shelly Beach, Manly

4.6
Shelly Beach is the only west-facing beach on Australia's eastern coast. These waters, part of a protected marine reserve, are filled with a variety of sea life, including species of the eastern blue groper, weedy sea dragon, gloomy octopus, and little penguin. Clear shallow waters lapping this beach make it a popular spot for scuba divers and snorkelers. A haven for sun seekers, this coastline is sheltered from the ocean swell by a reef that faces west. For refreshments, drop by Le Kiosk, a small beach restaurant selling light seafood meals, cold drinks, ice cream, and coffee. • This is the only western facing beach that I know of on the east coast of Australia. A true gem and away from the hoorah of Manly town. Amazing for romantic sunsets and great snorkeling.  more »

  • Great alternative option to Manly Beach. There's a nice walk from Manly centre, along which you can see Water Dragons. There's also a good restaurant there. Can get busy on a hot day...
  • It Was Great Me And some other boys built a couch out of sand!
  • It was a beautiful beach with many beautiful shells. But it was very crowded and there was no life guard. No parking. My little brother almost lost his ball there since there was a strong current it almost swam to the other beach. Luckily a kind man brought it back. The waves were very strong and my dad tripped on a few rocks. I don't reccomend this beach for kids but it is the perfect spot for snorkeling.
  • Whats not to love about Shelly Beach. It's been my morning swimming spot for the last 17 years. Has some of the most amazing fish for snorkeling and diving in Sydney and on quite a few occasions you will see dolphins and turtles. In the last few years the whales come into play around Fairy Bower and Cabbage Tree Bay Aquatic Reserve in August. #LetsGuide #shellybeach #snorkeling #northernbeaches #sydney
  • Beautiful spot, packed on hot days but still worth it.
