Hiking Trail Wildlife Area
Explore 55 hectares (136 acres) of subtropical rainforest at Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve. Learn about the history of the rainforest on a walk with a volunteer guide, marvel at towering Australian red cedars, and spot wildlife such as kangaroos, wallabies, frogs, and crayfish. Keep your eyes peeled and camera ready for the various colorful bird species that call the reserve home. You might want to visit the Mary Cairncross Cafe before touring the reserve. It opens at 8:30 am for breakfast, and the purple hue of the Glasshouse Mountains and mist surrounding them makes for a prime photo opportunity. The view is remarkable, though, at any time of the day. • Pocket of nature. Wonderful information centre with friendly, knowledgeable staff. Great amenities. Wheelchair and pram friendly. Amazing views of glasshouse mountains. Cafe available for a hot cuppa, cold drink, snacks and meals. The walking tracks are spectacular. Amazing number of bird life, also can see wallabies, pademelons, lizards, bush turkeys etc. As the canopy is fairly thick, it can be cool along the walks, so layers are best.
  • Great views from the new centre. Good ground facilities and amenities. A coffee shop would be a good addition so you could sit, relax and enjoy what mother nature has on display.
  • The new renovations are great and provide a wonderful experience for kids to learn and have fun with the learning centre. Plenty of picnic space and great amenities with a nice relaxing bush walk with plenty of friendly wildlife.
  • Beautiful park with plenty of walking tracks to check out the plant life. Plenty of open space for the kids to run around & plenty of BBQ facilities and seating for family picnic lunches & get togethers. We had 20 people for a breakfast bbq but there were also about 3 groups of 20 - 30 adults & children & we all had oodles & oodles of room between us. There was so much room that the kids were running around & yelling, giggling to each other & we hardly even noticed they were there. I'd recommend it in a heartbeat.
  • Beautiful walk in the Rainforest. Path is accessible to wheeled walkers, but a little uneven and simply cleared dirt track. Free, but "gold coin" donation appreciated. Also has a lovely discovery centre which is especially geared towards children.
