Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve, Maleny
(4.6/5 based on 460+ reviews on the web)
Explore 55 hectares (136 acres) of subtropical rainforest at Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve. Learn about the history of the rainforest on a walk with a volunteer guide, marvel at towering Australian red cedars, and spot wildlife such as kangaroos, wallabies, frogs, and crayfish. Keep your eyes peeled and camera ready for the various colorful bird species that call the reserve home. You might want to visit the Mary Cairncross Cafe before touring the reserve. It opens at 8:30 am for breakfast, and the purple hue of the Glasshouse Mountains and mist surrounding them makes for a prime photo opportunity. The view is remarkable, though, at any time of the day. • What a wonderful view on the Glasshouse Mountains. I might be lucky enough to meet a local artist, panting amazingly beautiful pictures of the mountains. Great place to visit for a peaceful rainforest walk, or hang out around the large play area and BBQs. Kids love it.
  • One of our favorite places to visit. It's a beautiful rainforest oasis full of wildlife. I love to go there early in the mornings. It has a great information center with friendly volunteer staff and a great lookout to the Glasshouse Mountains. Lots of BBQ and a play ground for the kids.
  • Small reserve with Pademelons (look like small wallabies), fruitbat colony and picnic area. The educational center is nice with friendly staff. Good place for a picnic (barbecues present) and a small walk (2 km). Not spectacular but a nice place to visit and have a sausage-sizzle
  • We're visiting Mary Cairncross on a regular basis, for a walk through the rainforest Park, to have a weekend out. A bit unhappy with the recent developments of a commercial venue that will change the previously familiar feel.
  • Nice place for a bbq, plenty picnic tables and good playground for the kids. Easy drive from brisbane.
