#3 of 15 in Things to do in Longreach
Ever wonder what it’s like to be a pioneer or a stockman, looking after the livestock in remote Australia? Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame and Outback Heritage Centre proudly displays objects and images from the bygone days, honoring the greatest and bravest explorers and Aborigines from the outback. Navigate through the galleries to understand why the founder and a former stockman himself, Hugh Sawrey, wanted to create a tribute to the unsung heroes and pioneering spirit. Admire the building from outside, and its stunning design from timber, stone and corrugated iron, reminiscent of the outback. Walk next door to visit a sandstone cottage complete with hand-edged timber, which is now an information center and a library. • this is a very hard review to write... We been talking about going on a rd trip and see this one day for years. Well we gone here and felt it was a let down. 1/2 to 2/3 of the items on display as old stuff our pioneer used we still use on the farm today or have it in the sheds just in case we need it one day. The outback show that run @ 11:00 pushed up our review a lot again we see most of the items they are showing in a daily life but the old stocky running did a ripper job and had both city and bush people enjoy it - well done to that man and his ~1.5 hrs show. That was well worth having a look at the show. I will give seeing family ftim the city here were loving the Stockman Hall museum and really getting in it to and loving it, they would not have seen all the kind of equipment and grown up with stories at night my husband and I did.
  • We thought very expensive $63 for two adults and thought average. Didnt stay long. Notwithstanding, we are both from farms and what we viewed, was what we grew up with. Others thought it was excellent that we talked to and enjoyed the reading and story's. Make your own decision.
  • Just great. From the displays, to the show, to the cafe and gift shop. Could use a bit more casual seating throughout, and better cafe organising during meal times
  • Great to see how our pioneers coped in this wide brown land. I especially liked the recognition of the aboriginal people and the part they played. Although sad to see how they were treated and taken advantage of. So many of them worked for food only and no pay!
  • Very nice clean building and friendly staff. There was a lot to see and read about A great deal of reading! If you want to see another good display on stockman and Drovers see the "Drovers Camp" a couple of kilometers east of Camoolweal. The Drovers Camp was more rustic and real. Senior Drovers will guide you for $5 (May-September)
