  • If you’re going to see this amazing tunnel (which looks like the night sky!) I recommend going with Wolgan Valley Eco Tours. Having a well equipped and knowledgable guide was brilliant on our walk abo...  more »
  • This tunnel is just beautiful, photos absolutely do not do it justice. The walk to get there can be long if you do the whole thing but it definitely worth the reward of seeing the beautiful glow worms...  more »
  • Great experience, especially with kids... The "tunnel experience" with the glow worms is fun, and the landscape around the tunnel entrance/exit is pretty cool. There are two ways to get to the tunnel....  more »

  • The drive to it was one we won't forget dirt road, bumpy, big pot holes, no signing until get closer, when we looked into it, didn't say anything about the road. Conditions Definitely won't do it with a rental and especially not. Without 4x4.lol but we made it. And was worth every bump The walk was amazing, a few stairs to the tunnel. We had to go quite deep in the tunnel which for our children was so exciting going on a epic mission. Then we where greeted by the pure magic. Loved it. We also packed a picnic and watched the birds.
  • This place is like the land time forgot, the plants look like something out of Jurassic Park and it's so remote and beautiful. It was absolutely breathtaking to stand in the darkness looking up at the glow works, they looked like stars in the sky. Some very good hiking trails too, although the distance signs were incorrect. Be prepared for a gravel/dirt road that gets rough in a few area's and make sure you take water.
  • Nice short, easy and enjoyable bushwalk down to the tunnel. Wear proper shoes for comfort and safety!
  • Amazing place - both the tunnel itself (an abandoned rail tunnel) and the grotto just outside the tunnel bordered by hundreds of ferns. Bring a torch, ideally a head-torch, and shoes with good grip (you'll probably get wet feet in the tunnel). Most comments refer to the access being via road from Lithgow, from where there's a relatively short (1km) walk once you get to the car-park. You can also access the tunnel via Newnes, which is a better road, but it's a harder 9km return walk (it's a nice walk though, with views over the Wolgan valley). • Great place to visit, and an excellent drive from Sydney! To be able to see the glow worms in their full glory you need complete darkness, and some time (I'd recommend sitting quietly in the dark for 10 minutes to let your eyes fully adjust) - we were lucky it was quiet when we visited on a Sunday afternoon outside school holidays. A couple of things to keep in mind are that the walk down to the cave itself from the parking area can be quite long (around 2km return, with some decent grades), especially for younger kids and older folks, and there are minimal facilities available (there is a traditional drop dunny at the parking area - that's it!). A 4wd or capable soft roader is highly recommended for the drive in, but is doable in a larger 2wd car so long as it's dry - there are some mild rocky slopes and rutted roads. Bring a torch, plenty of water and your lunch!
