James Boag's Brewery, Launceston

#2 of 17 in Breweries in Tasmania
Learn all about beer and receive an interesting history lesson at James Boag's Brewery. The historical building and stories combined with the new brewing technology makes for an interesting contrast. Tour a working brewery on a large scale and enjoy a beer tasting, combined with the correctly accompanying cheese, at the end. • We have six people, no expectations, that is, the tube went in to ask if there is no vacancy for us to participate in the tour, it may be on weekdays actually have a bit, it's not just like this, but after listening to the explanation of how the beer was done, from the beginning of the trial to the bottle, the solution was very 淸 and humorous, and finally gave us the taste of the shower, A little bit of cheese for beer, the original beer lined cheese is good taste ah.

  • Awsome tour in Boags Brewery at $33. The whole industry was fantastic. At last the three cheese with beers was most exiting. The Mersey Valley cheese was so good.
  • Review of lunch - not the tour. The brewery restaurant had a limited menu, however food was reasonably priced and good. The "beer garden" was situated in the carpark and there had no views of the nearby river. Overall a pleasant experience but would not recommend unless attending the tour - there are much nicer places in Launceston for a meal out.
  • Great history tour around the brewery just a shame it wasn't operating..awesome tasting time after with some brews only available in tas!
  • Free parking at the back of the building, fantastic and knowledgable tour guide. The beer and cheese at the end was brilliant, too. The big thing that spoiled this experience for me was booking on a day where the factory wasn't even operating (no bottling of beer, no employees whatsoever in the factory making things happen). Be sure to book on a day where you can get the full experience and enjoy it to the maximum!
  • Try the beer paddle $10. 3 beers and a small cup of Bailey.. very nice.

Where to stay in Launceston

Many visitors to Launceston choose to settle into one of the area's spacious rental apartments, which offer large rooms and plenty of privacy. Equally comfortable, the city's centrally located four-star hotels include onsite restaurants and air-conditioned rooms with flat-screen TVs and satellite channels. A less expensive alternative, Launceston's inns provide a convenient base for backpackers and causal travelers arriving without prior reservations. If you want something atmospheric and historical, look for guesthouses located in well-preserved Georgian and Victorian buildings.
