A towering headframe--a steel structure usually found above an underground mine shaft--marks the entrance into Western Australian Museum - Kalgoorlie, giving visitors a hint that this is no ordinary museum. A huge collection of gold nuggets, bars, and other glittering objects is displayed in an underground vault, and the second floor of the museum is taken up with indigenous cultural items and historical artifacts from the early mining days. From the viewing platform on the headframe you'll have a panoramic view of the town, and well beyond it. Visit this site for a chance to step back in time and see how prospectors used to search for gold, and learn all about the hardships faced by their families during the early 1900s. • Great museum showing off the history of the town and it's association with gold mining. Amazing staff who really care about their work.
  • Visited the Museum in 2015 & enjoyed an hour or so of walking around having a look at the history of Kalgoorlie / Boulder & the gold rush. Could easily spend many hours, though I found having a small look 1 day & returning the following for another walk around best for me. The view from the top of the head frame gives a great look over the Kalgoorlie township. I think entry is free, though a gold coin donation maybe expected, worth putting some time aside for a visit.
  • A must when visiting Kalgoorlie. Friendly staff. Excellent view from the upper level taking the lift. Amazing gold exhibition in the basement. Highly recommended.
  • One of the places in Kalgoorlie to visit to know the history.
