A towering headframe--a steel structure usually found above an underground mine shaft--marks the entrance into Western Australian Museum - Kalgoorlie, giving visitors a hint that this is no ordinary museum. A huge collection of gold nuggets, bars, and other glittering objects is displayed in an underground vault, and the second floor of the museum is taken up with indigenous cultural items and historical artifacts from the early mining days. From the viewing platform on the headframe you'll have a panoramic view of the town, and well beyond it. Visit this site for a chance to step back in time and see how prospectors used to search for gold, and learn all about the hardships faced by their families during the early 1900s.
