Inspirock Rating:
4.1/5 based on 90+ reviews on the web
Anbangbang Billabong is anything but a "stagnant pool of water," as many of Australia’s billabongs are often described. Sitting in the shadow of Norlangie Rock, a large rock outcrop contained within the Kakadu National Park, this billabong offers numerous opportunities to observe and photograph a wide range of native wildlife, such as waterfowl and wallabies. Slightly off the beaten path and never overcrowded by tourists, the area features a variety of habitats, including paperbark swamps, fringing woodlands, and sandstone plateaus. A walking trail takes visitors around the circumference of the billabong, with a number of convenient lookout spots and several well-maintained picnic areas. Be sure to bring plenty of bug spray, sunscreen, and lots of drinking water. To visit Anbangbang Billabong on your trip to Kakadu National Park, use our Kakadu National Park vacation route planner.
