Wave Rock, Hyden

#1 of 8 in Things to do in Hyden
In a country full of geological wonders, Wave Rock stands as one of the most beautiful. The smooth northern side of Hyden Rock hill resembles an ocean wave about 14 m (46 ft) high and 110 m (360 ft) long. The strange beauty of the granite inselberg rock's beige, brown, black, white, and gray vertical stripes owes itself to spring water running down and dissolving minerals into the wall. Follow the rock contours on a walkway above it or on the pathway at its base. You can reach the nearby town of Hyden in four hours from Perth via a sealed road or one hour by air. • About 3 hours drive from Perth. Since middle of Corrigin gasoline at service stations, petrol stations Sunday here everyday including weekends and check. Wave Rock itself is just everyone else the first time is interesting. However, I strongly recommend is The Wildlife Park (Zoo) next to the place you want. We are too funny bother 2 pull in the Centre block, just popped into Hyden to. Is a fee of $ 13, all of this money is used for feeding of animals. Kangaroos and colourful birds, Wombats, camel, alpaca, Black Swan is in the Park. And able to accidentally getting forgiveness zookeepers feeding time in the case of the stables of the Koala, fully interacting with the Koala. Is difficult to see the koalas in Japan did not work, actively have to eat is worthy of a visit is.

  • I would say Hyden Wave Rock formation is one of the top 25 natural highlights in Australia. An amazing place not too crowded. A longer hike here is highly recommendable.  more »
  • Amazing. Standing in the lee of this rock it feels like a huge wave is about to crash over you. Always thought it was sandstone because of the colour hues, however it is beautiful granite. Worthwhile ...  more »

  • Amazing spot! Worth the long drive to get here. Wear comfortable footwear as the walk trail is a bit steep. Do carry a bottle of water and a hat while on the trail. There is a small cafe nearby to grab some bites and coffee. I'd recommend this place for sure ☺
  • Sorry, but wouldn't do it again. Paid 12$ to see a couple of rocks. Yes, it is nice to see and interesting, but not worth it. Went all around and across Australia 8 times now and places like this are just overpriced tourist traps. The 12 $ are charged per car, so if you go take 3 more people with you to make it worth it. More than 4 people you have to pay extra again. Pay machine wasn't working, so had to go in the shop. At least the woman was friendly. The walk is steep and might be slippery in some areas, so take good shoes.
  • This is well worth seeing and the caravan park is very reasonable in price. Considering its $12 each to see the rock, but that's waived for people staying at the caravan park, you may as well stay here. The facilities are excellent and the park clean and tidy. (probably due to the high number of rubbish bins both in the park and at the entrance to Wave Rock.
  • I recommend to do the Wave Rock 4 times and to stay in the caravan park next to it for 1-2 days. 1.) Enjoy the Wave Rock and explore the walks nearby (Wave Rock walk, Hyppo track and so on) 2.) Enjoy the sunset while you're standing on Wave Rock 3.) Do some stargazing on Wave Rock during the night 4.) Get up early and see the sun going up while you're on the top of the Wave Rock
  • Fascinating geological structure, a natural rock formation about 50ft high and 350 ft long, carved out of the granite hillside. Close by is "Hippo's Yawn" and also Mulka's Cave with some interesting early Aboriginal hand stencils. Not to mention the Wave Rock Museum. A full day's trip from Perth, but you can also visit York, get to see the local countryside and a sense of how remote and challenging life can be even this short distance away from the city.
