Wave Rock, Hyden

4.4
#1 of 8 in Things to do in Hyden
In a country full of geological wonders, Wave Rock stands as one of the most beautiful. The smooth northern side of Hyden Rock hill resembles an ocean wave about 14 m (46 ft) high and 110 m (360 ft) long. The strange beauty of the granite inselberg rock's beige, brown, black, white, and gray vertical stripes owes itself to spring water running down and dissolving minerals into the wall. Follow the rock contours on a walkway above it or on the pathway at its base. You can reach the nearby town of Hyden in four hours from Perth via a sealed road or one hour by air. • The education of millions of years. Really-stone wave, changes its color depending on the time of day. Strong energy place. Don't be lazy-climb to the top and walk across the plateau. Types of limitless. On heat. Parking fee required.

  • We visited wave rock one evening before staying overnight in Hyden. It was impressive to see but I think only if it’s on your drive between Perth and Esperance which this was as it is quite out of the...  more »

  • The scenery is worth the drive. It's a very fascinating experience to see a rock naturally shaped like a wave with all those natural colours and patterns on it. Also if you take a walk up there's other bits and pieces to see as well. Definately a reminder to bring plenty of water and sunscreen so you protect yourself from the sun up there. There's very little shelter. You should also bring your own food as there's no places to eat nearby. Wouldn't recommend going on a rainy day as it could be very slippery and dangerous. Highly recommend a visit! It will be worth your time.
  • Awesome. Climb right up over the top and explore. Take water with you. Can get a wheelie walker in there enough to see the amazing wave. Big drive and suggest staying overnight but can be done in a day from Albany if you leave early
  • Great Place. Loved it. Drive to this place was also great. One should visit during the month of September as it is spring time and the drive from Perth is good with nice wold flower spots.Caution with the numner of bugs as you drive.
  • A pretty cool spot. Better than I expected. Not sure it's worth the trip on it's own, but it's certainly a great stop for a day/night.
  • We stayed here on our first night, very worth while stop, lovely shop, clean and well cared for camping site, good walks, dog friendly. Very good.
