  • I took my visiting English friend here for a relaxing Sunday morning. To my delight, there were local choirs like Sing Australia, giving performances outside Mathers Place. They had enchanted me at th...  more »
  • A fabulous range of fresh, orgainic, and interesting foods. I bought some top quality Manuka honey for a very reasonable price.  more »
  • This is a produce market set near the CBD rather than the general markets at Salamanca. It has more of a local vibe with plenty of local residents buying their bits and pieces and sharing a story. The...  more »

  • You could knock the overall prices/costs of the items, as they are high(!), but if you treat the outing as a great entertainment event- then it's not too bad. And the stuff that you grab is of utmost quality, so you can feel good about that. And you're supporting local peeps, so that's a "feel good" value adder as well. For our family- probably just don't get too "hooked" on going weekly, as the wallet empties too quickly! But, I haven't had a bad experience/product there yet. Always a great time out. 4/5 due to "bang-for-buck" (but then, I'm a bit, uh, "frugal"?!)
  • This is smaller and so much less crowded than the Salamanca Market, which is why so many locals prefer this one. It's nice to have some breathing room while you browse the stalls. There are a few food booths here, too. They're not always the same, but you can always find great stuff (such as authentic Mexican grilled corn on the cob). Plus the iced coffee from Bury Me Standing is incredible.
  • Awesome local produce; from: Fruit, vegetables, herbs, dairy, meats, baked goods and food stalls. I recommend Masaaki's sushi stall it's there fortnightly. Or for a sweet treat, the locally made donuts.
  • Loved it. Live music amazing fresh produce, great company and the Tasmania Butter Company. The butter is to die for OMG. A MUST.....check it out
  • Farmers market. Exceptional produce. Including cheese and most importantly the incredible sushi by chef Masaaki

Where to stay in Hobart

Hobart features a varied selection of budget and mid-range rooms located within striking distance of the central business district. You can choose from single rooms in small but comfortable hotels, or spacious suites with sweeping views of the Derwent River. If you want to avoid the central areas, look for rooms in North Hobart, where you can stay moments away from some of the city's finest restaurants. Throughout the city, backpacker hostels and pubs with rooms for rent provide another affordable alternative for those traveling on a shoestring.
