Cascade Brewery, Hobart

4.2
#1 of 17 in Breweries in Tasmania
Founded by an ex-convict in 1832, Cascade Brewery represents the oldest still-operating brewery in the country. Set against the backdrop of a snowcapped mountain and surrounded by lush gardens, the brewery draws clean water from a nearby cascade for its brewing process. Join a tour to learn all about beer-making, and then reap your rewards with a tasting at the end. Pay attention to the label of the brewery's premium lager, depicting the extinct Tasmanian tiger. Note that you'll have to walk up and down a lot of stairs. Plan my day in Hobart using traveler tips and tourist information provided by Inspirock.

  • Shared a amazing day going on the Brewery Tour. The guide was informative and passionate which enhanced the experience. Beer tasting was included in the tour and priced very reasonably. Lunch in the cafe/ restaurant was I would have to say the best burger I have eaten a definite must try. All staff were welcoming and extremely helpful.
  • Interesting tour, guide was very good. Food basic and expensive. Best of catching taxi as tour includes 4 beers/ciders to taste.
  • Informative visit with some interesting history. Good cafe and some fun beer options. Wonderful gardens to wonder around and absorb the beauty of area. Well worth visit.
  • Entertaining tour, good food and drinks in the visitors center. Was raining on the day of our tour with a fair bit of it outside, so if it's raining expect to get wet.
  • Great place to visit! There are quite a few stairs in the tour, so be aware if you have mobility issues. It's definitely worth the effort though.

Where to stay in Hobart

Hobart features a varied selection of budget and mid-range rooms located within striking distance of the central business district. You can choose from single rooms in small but comfortable hotels, or spacious suites with sweeping views of the Derwent River. If you want to avoid the central areas, look for rooms in North Hobart, where you can stay moments away from some of the city's finest restaurants. Throughout the city, backpacker hostels and pubs with rooms for rent provide another affordable alternative for those traveling on a shoestring.
