Brewery Historic Site
Founded by an ex-convict in 1832, Cascade Brewery represents the oldest still-operating brewery in the country. Set against the backdrop of a snowcapped mountain and surrounded by lush gardens, the brewery draws clean water from a nearby cascade for its brewing process. Join a tour to learn all about beer-making, and then reap your rewards with a tasting at the end. Pay attention to the label of the brewery's premium lager, depicting the extinct Tasmanian tiger. Note that you'll have to walk up and down a lot of stairs. Where to stay in Hobart

Hobart features a varied selection of budget and mid-range rooms located within striking distance of the central business district. You can choose from single rooms in small but comfortable hotels, or spacious suites with sweeping views of the Derwent River. If you want to avoid the central areas, look for rooms in North Hobart, where you can stay moments away from some of the city's finest restaurants. Throughout the city, backpacker hostels and pubs with rooms for rent provide another affordable alternative for those traveling on a shoestring.

  • Great place to visit! There are quite a few stairs in the tour, so be aware if you have mobility issues. It's definitely worth the effort though.
  • Great vegetarian options. Around 2pm had a fun beer pouring competition. Lovely garden just outside that you can view while eating.
  • Great experience. Tours are entertaining, informative & great value. Such interesting history here, not just on the brewing process but the history of the property & area, right back to the early 1800s. The Cafe/Restaurant with beautiful gardens to relax & enjoy a beer & bite to eat are not to be missed. Really Friendly & professional staff. A MUST DO experience when in Hobart.
  • One of the best beer in the world. Beautiful taste. It's way better than beers from other famous brands.
  • We did the family story tour with young kids, our tour guide Tara was very enthusiastic which adds to the story atmosphere. Wasn't disappointed. we learnt a lot about the history of the factory minus the taste testing. :) young kids. we even had the luck of being around when the beer pouring contest was on. Basically giving away beer, who could pour the best beer was the point. great day out a must see if in Hobart. Also had fantastic lunches.
