4.6
#1 of 23 in Sightseeing in Hobart
Historic Site Tourist Spot
Battery Point is named after a battery of guns, which were established here in 1818 as defense against French and Russian invaders. This historic city district retains much of its character from over a century ago. If you'd like, join a guided tour of the district's most notable historic houses and restaurants dating back to the first European settlement of the city. You can also sightsee on your own and drop by one of the popular pubs for a quick bite and a refreshing drink. This upscale neighborhood provides an ideal natural backdrop for photographs, making it a popular stop for tourists. Where to stay in Hobart

Hobart features a varied selection of budget and mid-range rooms located within striking distance of the central business district. You can choose from single rooms in small but comfortable hotels, or spacious suites with sweeping views of the Derwent River. If you want to avoid the central areas, look for rooms in North Hobart, where you can stay moments away from some of the city's finest restaurants. Throughout the city, backpacker hostels and pubs with rooms for rent provide another affordable alternative for those traveling on a shoestring.
